Grinding into 3rd and 5th?
When I drive street calmly everything feels fine with the gears, but when I race, I have problems. The higher my rpms, the harder it is to shift to 3rd and 5th, it tends to grind, and I have no idea why. It's only into those two gears as well. And yes the clutch is all the way engaged. Sometimes when I'm getting on the freeway, to avoid the grinding into 5th I'll engage the clutch but let the rpms drop a little before shifting up to 5th. Anyone know how to fix this? Someone said it could be my bushings but I don't know why only those 2 gears would be affected.
more then likely its your 3rd gear syncro. Its fixable, however its pricey. A cheaper alternative is a product called syncromesh. dump a bottle of that in and theres a good chance your problem will go away.
I have a 5th gear grind (very small) in my 5th gen when I shift fast. If I shift slow (like a normal person would shift), it goes in perfectly. Like jdmh22luda said, you gonna have to live with it. It doesn't bother me since I never have to shift quickly into 5th but not being able to shift fast in 3rd must be a b!tch !

If you're higher up in the rpm's when you're shifting into
3rd and 5th you can double pump the clutch and it should
slide in gear smoothly.
That's what I did with my old transmission and it worked pretty well.

my h22 trannsmission used to grind 5th all the time,so i bought another used h22 tranny and installed it and after a few 100 miles same problem,so i researched and i found out that it is pretty common to have those problems,by then i threw my other tranny in the garbage,so i wasted $650 for no reason.just get used to it and dont sweat it too much.

I've had this same problem for about a year now and it used to annoy the **** out of me. But I eventually got over it. I really don't have the cash lying around to get transmission work done.
