long scratch on my cylinder wall. could it lead to problems?
i dont know where the scratch came from. I just got the block back from the machine shop. I didnt notice it until i got home. i can feel it with my finger.


yeah im going to bring it back tommorow. its already been bored out to 81.5mm. im not sure if its a good idea to rehone it to get that out. i'll talk to them tommorow.
I had a similar scratch from the engine I rebuilt. The ring lands were gone on the engine so the ring/metal somewhat scared the cylinder walls.
I didn't have a shop hone it out, but I did hone it myself with the tool and tried to get it out as much as I can without honing too much. I was able to feel it but it wasn't such a dramatic feeling so I installed the rings and the engine runs fine.
180 p.s.i compression across the board.
Now since you had a shop do this, I'd have them try to do a light hone on it since you paid money for it.

Sounds very possible.If it was my personal engine I would run it with out hesitation.That scratch will not make any difference in engine life or performance.

it wont affect anything. When the new rings get 'broken in' they will seal and cover that up properly

ya def shouldnt be a problem at all. what that is is the boring tool they use on CNC machines, the cutter will bore the hole oout. then at the bottom of the bore, it will stop spinning and will "exit" the hole/bore. on the way down the bore tho, there is pressure on the tool pushing it inward towards the center of the bore. on the way out when it stops spinning, the pressure is relieved and the boring tool will sometimes creat a small line/scratch in the bore. usually its only .0001-.0002 deep, which is relativly nothing lol
figured id just let people who arnt experinced in machining and wondered exactly what does put that line in there
