i dont belive i have an exhaust temp sensor...regardless what are some quick ways i can cool it down... since i have alot of air going in, could it be back pressure since i have a stock exhaust system?

Its prolly your cat. On my old accord I had a clogged cat so bad that at idle when the car was parked in the grass it started to catch the grass on fire.

most likely back pressure from either clogged cat or exhuast muffler may need to be replaced , like most ppl said u could have been beating on it a little to hard, although it is normal for aftermarket headers to glow. u can prob improve this with exhaust wrap, aftermart cooling fan, maybe a vented hood, or aftermart front air damn if your really worried about it. also a longer ram CAI will pick up cooler air

You dont have to have an EGT sensor to have an EGT lol. Its a cast iron header and they tend to get red hot. I suppose it could be a clogged cat but if the cat was clogged the car would run like ****.

It is not normal for your exhaust manifold to glow red, no matter what people tell you. It is either from retarded timing, or a clogged cat.

spoonsiz88- Exhaust wrap insulates. This would make your egt's go up. Aftermarket cooling fan? First of all- he said his coolant temps were normal(you should really read what the person says before replying), and secondly- your engine would overheat, blow a head gasket, and shut off, and it still wouldn't make your header glow red from coolant temps. A vented hood or aftermarket front air dam? This doesn't happen to normal running civics with stock engine bay air flow, so how is spending money on aftermarket aero parts a better solution than just fixing the problem? Same thing for the cold air intake. The egt temp drop from the colder intake charge is negligible compared to the kind of temps it takes to make the manifold glow.

I'm sure some people will argue that they've seen headers glow on a dyno, but he said he was going 90mph before he looked at it. I'd say he has adequate air flow to cool the header enough to where it shouldn't be glowing if everything was working correctly.

D-money 92si- The way to check for a clogged cat (or any kind of exhaust restriction) is to hook a vacuum gauge to your intake manifold and blip the throttle. After you let off the throttle the needle should return to full vacuum quickly. If it doesn't go back to reading full vacuum almost immediately then you have an exhaust restriction.

Sounds like it's a clogged cat converter, I've seen this quite a few times, too much heat builds up inside your manifold/header.

EDIT:
I'm not sure what's legal or not in IL but what I do know is when you replace that cat, replace it with a high flow cat. It'll free up some room but it'll keep your backpressure good.

"it'll keep your backpressure good."

Backpressure is in no way beneficial to making power, if that's what you're implying. The backpressure = torque myth comes from small pipes increasing low speed velocity and producing more torque down low. Backpressure robs horsepower. Any time your motor has to work harder to get exhaust out, you lose power. The only reason to have even a high flow cat is for emissions.

this true..but a straight headeer will always make more power/torque than a full exhaust system...proven time and time again.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Tomslide50 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">"it'll keep your backpressure good."

Running lean can also lead to this. Doubt it if your engine is stock w/boltons...
