some questions about gsr and itr swaps
So i went to a local shop around here and talked to a guy for a few moments about engine swaps for my EJ2. i was thinking either the gsr or itr motor but im still stuck as to what one i want. I think i want the itr motor and i already knnow about the whole high compression thing and that its not realyl ideal for boost. So if i did get this motor what would be some good ways to start making power out of it? I haven't done a whole hell of a lot of work on my car but the guy quoted me at around 1,500 to do the swap and it woudl take 3 or so days. Would you guys think this is reasonable? i know the shop does excellent work and i've seen a lot of the cars they have worked on and everyone seems to be happy. So i suppose i will probably try to save up 7 or 8 grand and get the motor, swap and some basic mods for it. let me know what your guys feelings are about the motors and its prices. I don;t care about turbo i mean if i can go all motor and have it be pretty quick i'd love to do that. Theres something about seeing peoples ITR motors reving up to 11,000 that just gets me going haha. thanks for anyones opinion.

That's not bad, it's pretty reasonable, but doing it yourself costs 0 dollars. If you're going to get an ITR just keep it w/ an I/H/E, if those are namebrand and good you should be making close to 200whp (190-200). From there you pretty much need to go aftermarket as putting on a GSR TB wouldn't help like it would a ITR TB on a GSR. So you'll have to do machine work (port & polish or bore it out more for more compression). Aftermarket parts for that motor cost a lot though.
It depends what you want to do with it. Instead of going with an ITR, boosting a GSR will be a lot more powerful as with a good tune and good boost you could probably reach close to 300whp. What are your hp goals? Are you going to use this car for track? Street use? Autocross? (What class?)
Each motor is better for different things. IMO the ITR is good if you just wanna slap I/H/E (keep the engine itself stock) and you'll be making a good 190-200whp, that's that, & you leave it as a daily driver w/ nice power as is and stock, etc.
So what are your goals? Is your only goal to rev up to 11k RPM's? I'm assuming with the want for high rev capabilities you want it for drag racing?

well i just heard they take some work but they can rev up that high. i have no idea what anyone had done to them though. And its basically a daily driver for fun. but i want to start taking it to the drag strip eventually and we'll see i haven't really thought about autocross much. so really if i want to go for higher HP i should do the gsr then and just boost it?
