no tach
Hey I just got a 88 Civic DX 5spd with a D series motor and I have no tach. I wonder if anyone can tell me what speed each gear starts and ends in. Sorry for the newb question.
Thanks,
Robert

its a quite motor so listening isn't as helpful as it was on my vtec prelude. As far as swapping out the dash, I really don't want to put the time into it, this is just my beater. What are those ranges in mph?

are you seriouse about that? i hope not .. if you shift to third at 100 km/h you'll go past the redline.

if you cant get a si cluster, then just slowly get on it at the top of the gear til you find the rev limiter and watch your mph, then shift about 3mph under that and play it safe. my $.02
I was on the highway doing 100kph and I downshifted to 3rd and it bounced off the rev limiter a couple of times, so I don't think you can do 100kph in second with a DX tranny if I'm hitting the rev limiter on third. Or maybe I was doing 120... I can't really remember
well.. im pretty sure 100 in 2nd gear is impossible.. even more impossible with an si tranny because your rpms would be higher at 100. so i dont konw what this guy is talking about. id like to see a video or something. and i dont really want to rev my d15b2 engine more then 6500 ... its my DD and i dont need to blow this engine.. its the third one to be in the car.. that i know of. and it doesnt burn oil so im happy right now. and i still rarely ever rev to 6500rpm anyways. anything more would be a waste to me. i only do it if im mad at someone infront of me .. so i scare them by screaming past them.

lol choking noise = rev limiter, which is EXACTLY what i said to do. not to flame but i dont think he needs to be told twice

dude, you don't take out the entire dash. it's two screws on top of the hood that encompasses your gauge cluster, two on the bottom on either side of the steering column, and then the hood comes off. after that, you will see two screws on both sides of the gauge cluster. unscrew them. unclip the wiring harnesses in the back and vss (vehicle speed sensor). that's it.

no one missed that it was km/h, the highest i can go in km/h is 80 in second gear. theres no way of going 100.

Ah I see Well Here it is straight from my owner manual:
Recommended Shift Speeds
For Best fuel economy, and effective emissions control, shift at the speeds shown,
HF:
The HF model includes an Economy Driving Indicator(see pages 16 for instructions). Follow the indicator for the most economical shift speeds.
Cars sold in California do not have an Economy Driving Indicator, Use the following speeds as a guide.
