car running funny
hi guys, i just recently got an 89 crx dx autmatic a few weeks ago. when i first got in, it ran fine. i was told the car had a new, probably used motor put in it at some time in the past, he didnt have all the details because it was done before he had it. i was also told it had a new timing belt on it recently, im not sure if it was done by a honda mechanic, or someone in there garage, i dont even know if thats the problem. now that i've had it a few weeks it started to idle a little eracticly at time, almost dying. then it progressed to when i would pull up to an intesection it would die. i think it could have something to do with the auto trans to, it doesnt seem to disengage the motor or however that works and it kills the engine when i do a fast stop, but if i do a slow stop and give it a chance to downshift to 1st before i stop it wont dye, but now it has actually progressed to the point it dies, and the apon start up it has to crank so.
well as time goes on it has gotten worse, now it will dye if i slow down to 10-15 mph to go around a corner, get around corner and back into gas, and there is nothing there, it doesnt die, i still have rpms, but no power, sometimes it will actually rev up when i hit the gas, but the rev will change to a deeper pitched sound with no power, if i give it gas a let of throttle a few time it will go back to a normal rev with power, anything above 35 mph it cruises fine down the road, just when stopping and slowing for corners does it act up
well now last night it is getting worse yet, sometimes there will seem to be a loss of power when just crusing at 45 mph too, now if i hit the gas its fine,, power again, but just when cruising maintaining a consatnt speed it will seem to lose some if a little stress is put on the motor.
does anyone know what my problem could be, could it be the new timing belt, or maybe the intake fuel mixture is messed up.
sorry for the long write up, my write up makes it seem like i'm just ignoring it, but actually i have had the car for 12 days now and have put less than 100 miles on it, thats how long it has taken to become this bad, it drove fine when i test drove it and idled fine too. ohh sometimes i do get a burning, not bad but slight burning oil smell, i know it has a small leak on the back of the valve cover. no smoke or anything though
thanks for any help

Oil inside the spark plug holes are a common killer of D15B2. I've had to fix 4 of them in the past 2 years. It's an easy, really easy fix tho. Pull the spark plug wires one by one and tap them onto the valve cover and see if oil comes out of them.
And like said above, tune her up.
Sometimes if code 16 (fuel injector) is alive on your ECU, you might have a dying fuel injector.

thanks for the replies guys, i'll try changing the spark plugs and cleaning the wires and see if it helps, i made an apointment for monday for a place that always works on hondas, i wish i still lived in AR though, i had a great mechanic there, this place i havent been to, but it seems like it will be ok. hopefully nothing major. i can do the easy stuff like plugs, oil, change a belt or something like that, but as far as trouble shooting and scanning for codes, no equipment or skills for that.
ok, i'll have to check that out, what am i looking for, number of times it blinks, or color, or what, i know what your talking about on the computer though, i wondered what that round plexiglass looking hole was for
