L5 sub problems.. help

Default L5 sub problems.. help

Ok well im using and l5 10' sub on a intersys 1200 watt mono amp and using critical mass wires

this what happened: sucky panasonic Head unit and um i was at volume 35 volume max hits 40 and so i was playing dirt off your shoulder and then all of a sudden i smell something bad and i saw in the back my box was smoking.. when i turned my music off and back on when i try hitting volume 25 my amp protects... can someone help me?? p.s. iam also using a capacitor and a crossover for the sub

Did you charge the capacitor before you installed it?

Does the amp not go into protect below vol. 25?

Disconnect all the sub wiring from the amp, and see if the amp turns on without going into protect mode. If it does, check the sub wiring, to make sure you don't have any shorts. If all else fails, your sub is cooked.

What does that have to do with this? If he didn't charge it, he would most likely blow his fuse when he first hooked it up. I don't see how that would be related to this problem.

v.c. damage is what happened The smoke you saw was the voice coil melting. the coating that was on it. The real stinky smell.

well um it is a really stinky smell is there any way i can get this sucker fixed?? um it doesnt go into protect under vol. 25

You could try to send it to kicker. But they will figure it out that the sub was abused.

that wrecked the sub, for whatever reason, [driven too hard, poor power or ground, bad amp] amp output went DC, not good, and burnt the VCs, burnt VCs are not a warranty item, it is not a manufacturers defect, it is abuse. 94
