Default 99 V6 Catalytic converter code P0420. New cat or new 2nd O2?

For those of you that fixed your P0420 catalyst inefficiency code, what was the solution? Was it merely a faulty 2nd O2 sensor or did you have to replace the cat? If you replaced the cat, which one did you chose? Were you able to pass smog with the cat of your choice?

Thanks!

Is there a smell of rotten eggs coming from your car after a bit of driving?

But it sounds like it's the cat, anyway.

A cheap fix is this trick: http://www.sportcompactconnect...751ee

Hey that's a nice trick... I'll have to try that when I take a cat off an OBD2 car.

Unfortunately this car needs to pass smog inspection. I guess the question I needed to ask was what's the best aftermarket cat for my 99 V6 with CA emissions, b/c I'm pretty sure that's what it's gonna need.

Thanks for that link though. I'm gonna archive that one.

Warranty covers them to 80,000 miles.

Oh believe me, if this car had any where near that amount of miles, I'd be all over the emissions warranty. However, this car has more than double that amount of mileage.

BTW, that's like the 5th time I've seen you post that info (I've been doing searches on the topic)

Thanks!
