ok i purchased a vaccum gauge today and wet to try it on so anyways it said to put it on the vaccum line on the manifold so anyways i removed what i tought was the vaccum line on the manifold so i put the conector on their and pluged it to the gauge...so anyways i started the car and the more i was reving the car th higher the gauge would go so i was kind of happy...but i was not ready to complete the instalation of the gauge yet so i removed and and started my car and the engine light was on could someone possibly tell me what i did wrong if it was the wrong line i put it on could you take a picture on your car and post a picture of it on this post....is there a way for me to remove the engine light myself or i have to get it hooked up to a computer at the garage???by the way i have a 99 civic hatchback with a d1.6l....

Okay, I'll try to keep this as brief as possible. Your car is OBDII, as it is any model year 1996 and newer. This means the vehicles on-board emissions control programs monitor certain vacuum circuits very closely to be sure that fuel purge vapors and emissions are within legal spec. When you pulled that line, you most likely have set a diagnostic trouble code for "evap leak detected", or some code of the sort. Be sure that whichever lines you disconnected are secure, and without leaks. Depending on the particular code set, driving within certain conditions may cause the light to go off, but your best bet is taking it to a trusted mechanic, explain to them what you did, and have them scan for the code. In the future, just check the manual for which vacuum line you need to disconnect. If youre not sure, chances are you're not really familiar enough with the car to be trying everything solo. Keep in mind when manufacturers include installation instructions with their gauges, they are usually generic, and not every car's manifold vacuum lines are the same. Sorry about the long *** post, feel free to ask me to clarify if needed.

hey man you unplugged the vacumm line to your fuel pressure regulator.

 

ok this is me...had to make new account cant post more then 5 messages per day...i dont know the code since i dont have a computer to plug it on....ok so if i unpluged the fuel pressure vacum hose is that a bad thing???..and where is the hose i should unplug located at??

 

if you plugged the hose back on, it may clear itself since you have obdII.

you can use that line for your gauge, just tee into it.

 

To test for the CEL, next to the ECU should be a little hanging 2 wire plug. Take some wire or connectors and make it so the two wires loop back to eachother. This will make the Engine light blink. Long blink-10. Short blink-1. Best of luck. And use a different vac source.

ok so i can use that line????but why is my check engine light still on even if the hose was put back on the regulater right after i unpluged it????that is what i used to try it its a tee that was supplied with the gauge..... *confused*

 

tank you jason...i did this before on my 95 hatch but since this has obd2 would it still be the same???and are you sure the conector is there??....i know where it was on my 95....could you tell me what vac i could use if so where it is located at??

you can unplug your battery - post or remover the ecu fuse for 10-15 min that will reset your code or you can go to autozone or advance auto part and have them pull your code, and hopefully they will reset the code for you. as for the the vacuum line you could use that line, but you have to T it out or share the line with you vacuum gauge. why do you need a vacuum gauge anyway? may i ask.

 

tanks for your reply...the gauge is only for looks i bought a dual dash gauge pod and didnt know what gauge to put in them so i went with the air and fuel gauge and the vacum gauge....that is what i did tee the line when i installed it and still made my engine light comme on....so where is the ecu fuse located???and do you know of another vacuum line i could use??just in case

just reset your ECU using hte battery, unplug it for 10 minuts, then put it back on...you'll have to reset your clock again....

With that said, I wouldn't tee it there..that looks liek ur FPR... tee it to a vacuum that goes to ur IACV or something...I don't like the idea of one going to ur FPR, but that's ur call man..the FPR one willl go fine/should go fine

The only reason the CEL is on b/c u unplugged it, reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery for 10 minuts and after u hook it back up, u reset ur clock, the CEL will NOT be there anymore...or take it to autozone they'll clear the code for you..

PS: What kinda BOV is that?
& is ur A/F ratio guage connected to a wideband O2?

 

tank you for the very helpful post....first maybe a stupid question but what you meen by bov??? and for th A/F gauge this is covered i know where to plug it its on the whits wire on the O2 sensor......do you know of a vacuum line i could plug it to??if so where would it be located???what do you meen by reseting my clock???like the time clock??lol
