Default Civic Si Bogs when letting out clutch - SOLVED

*** SOLVED ****

Replaced the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Runs like a champ again!

Thanks for all the help HT!

The car worked fine until today. I noticed that when you let out the clutch today the car would bog. When in neutral the engine revs fine. This is what leads me to believe that is clutch related.

I appreciate any help.

Does this sound like a bad clutch to anybody?

How does it do after the clutch is engauged?

Does it bog under a load or just when the clutch lets out.

I may not have your answers but I'll ask the right questions.

bog means to be slowed down. So it will be like a little jerk.

The engine makes a low pitched bog sound. It sounds like it may die unless you "feather" the gas.

When in neutral the engine will rev fine throught the powerband. If you were to hit the gas while at idle the engine will NOT bog.

I'm used to my car as I've had it for about a year and a half. I just noticed today that when letting out the clutch (just like I normally used to) the engine felt like it was going to die if I didn't give it more gas.

I've driven stick shift cars before but I never had a clutch go out. I don't know if this is a warning sign of what is to come when a clutch starts to go bad.

The car is bogging from 1st to 2nd and a little bit 2nd to 3rd.

Let me know if I'm being descriptive enough...

Couple things i would do:

Check Your Oil
Check Your Spark Plugs
Check Distributer, Cap and rotor.

Im guessing no cels?

i think your clutch might be going. I had a problem similar to yours. I open the clutch and found only half of the clutch was still intact.

Ok, I just drove the Si to work today (about an hour drive). It will kinda sputter out of first gear and then a little bit when you're shifting into second gear. On the highway at 70 the whole way I had no problems. Downshifting (from 5th to 4th) didn't produce a sputter but then again the RPM are around 3500 - 4000 so I could see why you wouldn't have a sputter or bog.

The car definately still has power and I want to find out what the problem is. I think it's the clutch.

Do you think maybe (and this is a longshot) that I may have a bad tank of gas that could do this?

Drive along in a high gear (3rd,4th or 5th) at about 3000rpm, keep the throttle pedal postion constant and press the clutch in and then release it fairly fast. If the revs rise with out the car speeding up then the clutch is slipping and is worn out. If the cluctch grabs the car will jolt and carry on driving at constant rpm.

If you do this going up hill it should very obvious if the clutch start to slip as the car will slow down as the revs rise!

This dosnt sound like a clutch problem to me.
