cheap ebay upgrades? or pay more for the real thing?
so i'm poor.......but i want to add some power to my stock d16a6 motor in my 90 ex sedan. so what i'm wondering......do the cheap headers/hi-flow cats/cold air intakes on ebay actually increase hp at all, or would i just be wasting my money. they claim "8-15hp instant increase", but is that true or not......i really don't have the money to go out and buy a dc sports header for my engine, but if i have to, i could save for awhile......

they will not add too much power, since your motor is stock internally, other than that intake header exhaust (piping and all) is a good way to make about 5 hp. Since your having your motor to flow better in and out

doesnt really matter if you buy ebay parts or name brand parts..You'll notice very small gains,,,but will notice more "NOISE"
and dc sport isnt really that great so you shouldnt even compare...Dc sport is like an ebay header with a different name that rusts

waste of time and money seriously......They advance timing and make the engine run pig rich....Thats not how you get power.....if you're going to chip it ever,,,,you need a chip thats custom tuned for your setup,,since you're stock the stock ecu is fine....Once you get into the engine or turbo it then you can think about chips and that sort of thing

not much..i actually dynoed my old d16a6 before and after a while back at some dsm tuner place it made something like 7whp...that was short ram intake, megan header,2.25" catback exhaust, straight throught muffler,no cat....sounded faster though lol......

with $100 i would go buy a new distributor cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, and change all fluids.....just keep saving your money and buy performance parts later. its always good to have a car that has a "good running" motor. then check for any leaks and such.

Don't waste the money on e-bay stuff because you will just want to upgrade it later anyways, the cheaper headers can acctaully cause you to lose power, hight flow cats on ebay are usually just hollow resenators which are illegall anyway, cheap exhaust will make you car sounds like a hornets nest is in the exhaust, cheap coil overs will blow out your stock shocks and bounce you unsafely off the road... you could buy a ebay short ram intake and just ditch the cheap air filter and get a nice K&N cone filter for the end, my old a6 with that setup sounded mean, no real power gain but it might keep you happy for a while...but do a good complete tune up, replace all filters and stuff and you will probably gain more power than you will with the ebay parts
also, if you're looking for less-expensive stuff for your a6, i'd check out http://www.modacar.com and look at the megan headers...they're around something like $130 if i can recall correctly. they have pretty prompt shipping, too. i have heard good things about those headers.
Last time i check most used parts are as good as new
Most of my parts i bought used and they are perfect, its really the only way i could afford to build the car that I wanted and with most name brand high quality parts they have a warrenty or are rebuildable etc...How else could I have got a set of Koni yellows and GC coils for $200?

One thing that I am mad the previous owner did to my car, among many other things. I cannot stand the ride in my car; I kinda hate driving it.
p.s., wtb stock 88-91 civic/crx springs......
