Default Primary O2 sensor causing cat. converter to throw CEL?

I have a CEL for bank1 o2 sensor and the catalytic converter. Would a bad primary o2 sensor also cause the cat to throw a CEl also?

primary O2 will cause the engine to run rich.
which may set the secondary O2 code for cat converter.

If you've been messing with the car lately, more than likely you have a wiring issue which cut the power or ground to the O2s.
If the car is stock or not messed with in the last couple months then you will be looking at a new O2 for sure.

I bought the car with a fuked up cluster so after I got a new one, there was a CEL so it was there before I bought it. But the motor is stock.

How many MPG should I be getting in a stock dx? I beilive I'm getting around 30-31mpg that last time I checked with the CEL.

If you had a non working O2 sensor you would be seeing somewhere in the mid to low teens (17-18 mpg). It sounds like you just have a wiring problem. Good luck I would look more to there being a problem with the second O2

When I went to get it check they said it was "bank 1 sensor" which I was told is the primary one, so I don't see how it could be the sencondary.

I'll check the wires again when I get home from work.
