Default short shifter prob

I have a 93 EG, and I'm tryin to remove the old shifter to replace with a short shifter. The upper ball, no nut attached to, will not come out. Is there a release button or something to help pull this old shifter out? thanx

I hate short shifters. Personally I think its just much better to install polyurethane shift linkage bushings and it makes for a very direct, great feel. Its also better on your tranny in the long run. But that wasnt your question, so ill shut the hell up now.

the shifter has to come out through the bottom of the car, under there(on my 97 Civic) there is a plate that the shiter is in. that has two bolts that need to come undone. the shifter will feel loose bcause its just the rubber attaching it to that plate. hope this helped a lil.
