Default How do you get away with swapped motors??

Sorry, noob question, but when you swap a motor that isnt meant to be in a certain car (say an H22 or b18 into a eg civic), how do you get through the smog testing? I am wondering the same thing about turbos in Hondas. If you have any Colorado specific info, that would be even more helpful, however, i dont care if motor swaps cause cancer in California, lol.

I don't think many other states besides California care what motor is in the car, as long as it passes the emissions test. As long as it's running right, and it runs clean, you shouldn't have any issues.

My motor runs fine and is clean as a whistle but I failed emissions because they couldn't get an obd reading because im obd1. Bunch of bullshit or what. By the way I live in Illinois.

when i had a b20 in my hatch the smog tech's knew, they didn't care, they just looked under the car to see if i had a cat, looked in the engine bay to see if all the evap stuff was there, saw it was there, put the sniffer to my tail pipe and i passed. he said i needed a "tune-up" but that's probably just because the limits for the original motor (1.5 liter) were different for the limits of the 2.0 liter.
