Do a search, ls/vtecs and how to build them are probably the most covered topic on honda-tech.

get arp rod bolts, the ls rods will need to be slightly shaved to fit the itr pistons on

i think iam going to go with some p30 b16 pitions instead, and some arp head bolts. cause all i really want to do is rev to 8k

if you want to rev past 8k arp rod bolts are essential

you might want to get your rods shot peened as well

ls rods were not meant to handle 8k. do your build right the first time and get some aftermarket pistons/rods. u will be much happier in the long run and will be so much more comfortable w/your setup.

since when is that correct? they will withstand 8,9 and 10k no problem. A good amount of the LS/Vtec setups run whatever piston setup with factory LS rods and you rarely you hear about a rod failure. You can run the LS rods but you need to get ARP rod bolts to secture them to the journals.

to the thread creater, do some research! yes it's possible to put in USDM/JDM itr pistons but you need to calculate what your compression ratio will come out to.

using: http://www.zealautowerks.com/

using the jdm P73-00 pistons with a b18b head/block/crank and rods, you get a appx. compression for 11.6:1

using the USDM P73-A0 pistons you get a nicer more streetable compression of 11.1:1

*edit* also forgot to note, it's not that beneficial bumping up your compression without head work. You will need to get the engine tunned once you throw in the P73 pistons and that wont be really worth the outcome unless you save some cash and get some valve springs/retainers and a set of lumpy cams

very true, mine spun very nice up to and sometimes past 8.5k with the arp rod bolts

ive never seen a rod snap, in one case a person took his factory ls rods to 12k because his throttle body got stuck open

he spun main bearings and cracked his crank but the ls rods and arp rod bolts didnt give out

exactly.
if you are worried about the rods, get them shot peeined(SP?)

I'd say the only time you'll throw a rod...and your engine is lack of oil and the engine runs dry
