ls/vtec question
As I have posted here before: I have seen LS/VTECs rev to 8100 RPM, but if you are going to take ALL of the time & money to take apart a block and build a motor from the bottom up, spend the extra $300-$600 on some aftermarket rods, since they will be the weak link of your project if untouched. Many people are going to say that the stock rods are fine, but when you have people spending $500 on a header and a thousand dollars for a set of cams, you may as well put the money into the heart of your motor and buy some rods & arp rod bolts. And of course you will have the extra strength on the bottom end and you should be able to rev out a bit higher and most likely make more power. If you do decide to stick with the stock rods, do use ARP rod bolts & get yourself a good rev-limiter.
