Ok so heres the deal.

I have a 1993 JDM EG4 (has a D15b now) which I got as a shell. The car originally had AC from the factory, but the previous owner pulled it out. The underdash is still there though.

Now, I found a guy with a JDM EG6 (with a b16) and he is willing to sell me the AC from his car. His car is a 1992. First question, did japan convert to r134a in 1994 like the USA? or earlier/later? I need to know if i have to convert it to r134a.

Next question, my car has a D series, his a B. Will the compressor still bolt up to my engine block? if not, what do i need?

I dont know when Japan converted, but if it is r12, the conversion is quite easy, especially because you wont have to vacuum it. (WARNING be careful when putting the fittings on, the necks of th A/C pipes like to rip off when the temp outside is over 100) Im not sure about the compressor fitting, I know you can bolt a D compressor to a B block, but Im not sure if it works the other way around

what do you have to do to convert r12 to r134a??

 

to use the a/c compressor from a dseries onto the bseries engine still using a d-series components (lines, condensor, etc.) you will need 1 of 2 compressor brackets.

you can find them at the dealer

he is doing it the other way around though, b series compressor on a d block

All you need to convert are the r 134a fittings ($7 at autozone), and then get some bottles of r134a pre mixed with oil, you can get a retrofit kit for like $30-40 at any car parts store that comes with everything you need, or piece it together yourself.

Thanks but im going B compressor and lines on a D block...

 

eewww....that's going to be hard, being that the b series compressor is the larger of the 2 compressors, you won't find a oem mount for the d series block. in your case why don't you just change the a/c lines.

Cause i need RHD lines and i cant find D series ones anywhere

 

You could go to a place like hose king or someone like them and they could probably make you up the pipes you need. Just take the B series end links and use your D series lines and theyll make it fool proof.

 

not sure, but i would guess an eg w/ b series is prob gonna be like the del sol. the compressor that fits on the del sol bracket is a d compressor isn't it?

one of them is, but in his case it's totally different.

OK im a bit confused. is the only difference between D and B series AC systems the compressor????
