Default B16 and Transmissions

I've rebuilt a B16a1 and now i'm looking for a tranny to finnish the swap. Theres a lot of GSR and GS trannies for sale i know of, so i was thinking about one of those. ( i know GSR is hydro, i'd need a conversion...)

Does anyone have any recomendations?

Thanx

The best one to get is a S80 type r, or in the case of most budgets, a sirII Y21 will be awesome, 4.4 gears in both, the only difference is the gears in the s80 are a bit longer, and the Y21 has optional LSD. thats what I'd recommend.

Hasport makes the cable to hydro conversion, or get a tranny from a B17A1. Its an old school cable gsr tranny.

hands down best tranny. Cable anyway is the ys1 from a 93 gs-r. It's basically an s80 in cable form. mmmm yummy.

92-93 GSR is kind of hard to get your hands on so don't hold your breath.,..also the 92-93 LS, GS, RS all had trannies staged with the ys1 sticker i believe if you search on google you can find some info on ther serial numbers for the GSR tranny to help make sure it is truely a GSR tranny 90-91 there was no gsr and the LS, RS, GS trannies were tagged A1 just so you know if you see one of those...

The thing that sucks is finding decent GSR or B16 trannies that are cable are hard to find for cheap May just be better to do the hydro conversion

i would go Y1 or Ys1 i had a y1 with my b16a and it was great then i had to rebuild it and put a ys1 in the only different from what i could tell was loss of traction and a bit longer 3rd. stick with cable easy to work on and yes it might cost a bit but if u do hydro convt than its going to cost about the same with the tranny. and the hydro convts never work that great.

Thanx guys, this is helping me out tones, I dont know a great deal about all the honda trannies but i'm learning.

Well for now i think i just may stick to a cable tranny for now, I've got enough costs putting the thing in my car as it is.

So now to narrow it down, Either: Y1 or Ys1, B17a1 or Y21 (Sir) ...(also, whats the Y1 out of?)

Thanx again

believe it or not....i picked upa 93 gs-r transmission from autozone. I payed about 800bucks for it. and considering that some crew will strip them off gs-r and trun around and sell as-is for 1g, i got off ok. I guess i paid for piece of mind. I am one of the only buddies who's 3rd gear doesn't grind. And as for the longer third gear comment. I have had both the ls ys-1 and the gs-r ys1 now. I haven't had a chance to tinker with a y1 but i'm pretty sure the ys-1 has the shortest of them all, in reference to the gears repsectively.
So go to your local autozone and ask for those transmission numbers.

i have a ys1 w/lsd on my b16a ...the gears are real short... around 3900 at 70 it gets kinda old but then again it was my chioce to put that in there, overall i give the ys1 w/lsd

The ys1, imo, is the best move for a quick gain on most people. If they don't know what the ys1 or y1 is, they don't need to be driving you car. But as far as i know, the ys1 has the shortest gears, repectively, the gs-r has the shortest. The l/s is still quick but the 1st gear and 3rd gear are different i believe.
