ok, so here's the deal.
did the MPFI swap in march/april. shortly after the swap the temp guage quit working -- ok so i figured thermostat had gone sour. so tonight replaced the thermstat -- still no temp. the needle sits RIGHT at the top of the "C" and thats where it stays.
now i figure its got to either be the cluster (which i doubt), or the sending unit. Now, my question is where is the sending unit?
Anyone have any other ideas for me? I havent had a temp gauge since the MPFI and i'd love to get it back and operational. Anyone have any ideas??

lets not hijack this thread please.
ok, so thats not the issue -- it is plugged in, and its plugged in correctly -- i think. either way, it doesnt matter what way i plug it in, it still doesnt work. what is the correct way? black/yellow on top, or yellow on top?

shouldnt matter, it just completes the circuit.
why are you messing w/ the rad fan thermo switch???
the sensor for the temp guage in the cluster is G R E E N
(the middle one color blind boy!)

lol like i said, my eyes didnt even seen the coolant sending unit on that 1st picture, all i saw was the fan thermoswitch and thought that was it... blonde moment. but yeah, all is well
i'll be testing the wiring harness and then the sending unit after i post this, and then going to buy the sending unit if thats the issue

It works again. I went to the junkyard and pulled one from a car. Just wanted to make sure before I bought a new one. Installed it and no more spiking. Thanks for the help and the great picture.

ok, so heres my question NOW...
i figured the random check engine light was my o2 sensor, and i blamed the crappy gas mileage on that took. well yesterday i replaced the o2 and still, shitty mileage and random check engine. the ECU says nothing more than code 20, which is electric load, which is associated with the MPFI swap, i know that much.
my question, wil a faulty coolant temp. sender cause a loss of about 100-150 miles /tank and a random check engine that goes away immediatly?

actually, is your ECU from the USA? because in Canada we dont have a Electric load detector in (they are normally in the fuse box).
which coolant temp sender? the ecu 1 will / can cause poor milage.
have you been resetting the ECU after checking the codes? (remove hazard fuse in engine bay box for 15 seconds or so).

Have you tried getting to it from below?

No, the coolant sending unit that sends the temp to the ecu would though.

so its either bad ECU or the engine temp sensor to te ECU is bad? i've got to get this fixed today, these gas prices are killing me...
i know code 20 doesnt matter -- thats not an issue for me anyway. it doesnt give me a check engine light, just throws code 20 all the time. no big deal.

No, if it was the engine temp sensor you would have that code. I was just stating the temp sending unit won't make your gas mileage worse.

ell, i replaced both coolant temp sending units today, and the check engine is gone (so far) and the gas mileage is WAY up again. so it was one of thos 2 things
