Default am i having a problem w/ my ex tranny or am i crazy?

ok i have a 97 civic ex coupe .. i usually shift around 3k for daily driving .. now i was on a road trip on the highway .. and when im in 5th gear goin about 85 im at like 4k .. is that right? b/c i feel like i should have a sixth gear almost .. b/c highway driving would kill me on gas .. like theres no possible way for me to cruise at 80mph at like 2.5k ..

so am i crazy and they made the tranny like that b/c ppl "shouldnt" drive over 80 or at 80 ... or is something wrong .. perhaps i dont have an ex tranny and it was replaced at one time

p.s. i remember a thread somewhere .. about knowing if u have an ex tranny .. and somone was saying theyre usually at like 3k in third gear going 60 .. thats def not the case w/ me

You're crazy, cause that's normal.

4k rpm's isn't that much and you can still get 30+ mpg. I like keeping the rpm's up cause you stay in the power band too much. I mean, cruising at 2500 rpm leaves you nothing when you step on the gas.

4k at 85?!

Consider yourself lucky. I have an ITR tranny that is at 4k at 70 MPH!
