I changed the brake pads and blead the brakes on my moms Del Sol saturday, the brakes have been working fine until this afternoon, i was at a stop light and the pedal went to the floor and the car started moving forward like you let off the brakes(car is automatic), i pressed it a few more times and it went straight to the floor again, pulled over and checked the brake fluid level, it is right at maximum still. Drove it home carefully and the problem never came back again. It has been fine, havent got the problem to replicate again. The pedal is not mushy feeling, its very solid i have blead many brakes before. Any ideas? i was thinking the vac booster might be going bad, i hate to give my mom back her car if i know there was a problem. TIA

 

my girlfriend has this problem with her integra and her ABS light is on 2... hum.. bump for this guy mayb an answer can help me 2

 

no abs on the sol, does have stock rear disks

 

It could be your master cylinder man.

why would you have to bleed the brakes if you just changed the pads? anyway, it'll most likely be you master cylinder. also double check to make sure there is no broken lines and/or that the seal in the caliper are not bad. when bad they will leak allowing air into the system.

blead them because the fluid hasnt been changed for 120k miles, was all black color. no leaks at all.

then if their is no leaks (hoping that you checked everything), then bleed the system again, you still have air in it. the only time the pedal does this is when there is air in the system.

found out its the master cylinder, if there is air in the system the pedal will go to the floor but it will not be hard then go soft like what the master cylinder will do.

 

how much does a master cylinder usually cost.. a brake master cylinder and a clutch master cylinder? like from autozone...

MAKE SURE YOU BLEED ALL THE AIR OUT OF IT BY CYCLING THE FLUID THROUGH THOSE LITTLE TUBES PROVIDED. Trust me on this.


Also make sure you have the brake lines connected securely.

 

This is a very common thing. As you found, it's a bad seal inside the master cylinder. My 94 CX recently started doing this at random times (very progressive), and I just helped diagnose this problem on my friends 92 CX. If you want to check it out yourself, all you need is a friend to help:

- Take the cap off the brake fluid
- Have your friend push the pedal to the floor & then release it over & over
- Watch as your brake fluid level rises & falls
- If it does, your MC is bad
- If it doesn't, you have air in the brake lines (or a leak)

A leak in the brake system should be easy to find because after a few pumps your reservoir will be empty & there will be a puddle of fluid on the ground...

But right off the bat it sounds like a master cylinder, because the pedal wouldnt start hard and slowly go to the floor if there was air in it, it would always be mushy. If it started out hard and sunk at a stoplight, in MOST not all cases, its the MC.
