Default ouch. went to buy oil and they didn't have any honda stuff... only repsol

not that I mind repsol but I've been using the honda 10w-40 stuff for awhile now. I get a gallon + a quart because my superhawk uses like 4.2liters of oil or something... All they had was 20w-50 of the honda so Repsol it was. First time I've seen repsol here on the east coast. Granted I just moved home to DE so it's been awhile since I've been to these shops. But man the oil + honda filter was like $55... stuff better work well for that much... Side note... How often are you changing oil? I've been doing 1500 but I don't think I can stand $55 every 1500 miles for this stuff... wasn't as bad at about $25 or so with the honda oil...

I change my oil and filter on all my bikes every 3,000 miles with Motul 5100. Costs me about $40 USD for oil and filter.

The good ol' oil debate. In the end, get whatever the manufacturer recommends. All that 'repsol' oil, or 'redline' oil that costs so much extra is all a load of crock to me.

nah. we noticed a huge difference in our truck using synthetic from day 1. at 200000 miles it still ran perfect and only other things were having issues... My buddy runs motul and he said shifting is smoother and it seems to run a little better.

You thought you noticed something different because you wanted to notice an improvement.

I run synthetic in both my vehicles, but I'll buy whatever brand is on sale that day and in the weight I need.

no we use mobil 1 in our truck. I'm using that as an example that it isn't a crock of ****. it was and is way better then regular stuff. and no it's not the placebo effect. you forget that the oil is in the transmission too. He works at duncan honda and said there was a noticeable difference on his f4i and he's never told me **** just to get me to buy something more expensive. I said whatever it's too expensive and kept using the honda stuff. I'll let you know when I change the oil a little later today but oil is different when it comes to how well it protects. I've seen many dyno's by 3rd partiest on high hp engines that increase power by 1% simply by switching to royal purple.

Id give you $20 if you could find one case of a certain oil being the root cause of damage in an engine as long as the engine was properly filled and had pressure.

WTF is this argument about? Syn vs dino? Or brand a vs brand b. Seems like you guys are arguing different points.

I only use Repsol oil myself. Change it once a week.

I thought I was quite clear. I'll restate it in layman's terms. I'm arguing that synthetics in the same weights between different brands/companies have negligible performance differences. You're simply paying extra for the name.

Right - it gets a oil change with every new tank of gas!

ok... the motul and repsol though cost the same... and there aren't any other synthetic motorcycle oils... so I didn't pay for any name... just the oil

the thing i don't understand if your used to using the same oil all the time, and your dealer or wherever you bought oil from was out, why not wait a few days and do the oil change then, Id say every 1500 miles is preatty excessive as well

I said I just moved so the normal dealer is 400 miles away... Plus honda isn't making anymore 10w-40. they've moved to 10w-30... Not a big deal but I'm at 21k. It won't hurt to goto synthetic... I'm gonna do every 3000 with repsol from now on...

well i changed it and went for a ride.. honestly the synthetic seems to shift smoother and the motor feels a little smoother as well compared to regular honda non synthetic oil one odd thing though is I tried clutching 2nd and the clutch didn't seem to chatter like it would before and it lifted but not very high... now maybe I'm not doing it right but a motorcycle oil shouldn't give me grief with my clutch...
