so my buddy just bought a 01 prelude base model ?. forgive me i dont know to much about preludes. i work for acura so i dont normaly get to work on preludes or accords but this is my bro so i figured i'd help him out. he brought the car to me with the check engine light he said it might be the o2 sensor so i look under the car no cat hmm so i pulled the codes misfire on all 4 yclinders. i cleard the code and it did not come back on for a few miles. i changed the plugs with oem plugs went away for about 55 miles now its back on. the car has about 75k on it and as far as we know the car was decently taken care of. any ideas guys?

yea thats probably not a symptom of misfire using 87 octane.. my guess cause its all 4 is that he put the plugs on the cap wrong and hosed up the sequence. Either that or the distributer is toast.

he runs nothing but 92 octane thw wires that were on the car were those stupid MSD crap that all the kids think is actualy making power but there really not. cap and rotor and valve adjusment sounds good to me just wanted some opinions. as far as injectors i doubt it. ive never seen injectors go bad on any honda for a long *** time. ill do the other things and get back to ya guys. and i read something else about the egr being clogged forgive me if im wrong but most egr case's cause cause a code for insuffecient flow but like i said new to preludes so let me kno

You would think it would throw the egr insuffienct, but it doesn't always. I "normally" get a cyl 1 misfire code before i get an egr insufficient. Accords/Preludes seem to be know for the egr system getting gunked up. Note: make sure you pop the 6 plugs along the intake manifold for the egr runners. This will be were most of the clog resides.

i had the same problem with the misfire code. i changed distributor rotor and cap, plugs and wires. the check engine light came back on after 55 miles....anything else i should check, run 93 every fill up

I had a fuel injector fail on my Prelude and it threw a cylinder 1 misfire troublecode, so you might want to rethink that.

I agree that this is what you should do first. If all of these steps check okay, then you might have bad piston rings or bent valve ( s ). Have you taken a look at the timing belt and camshaft sprockets to make sure that everything is hunky-dory over there?

well if it were a bent valve and a fried ring i thnk the car would at least give some sort of sign . it rungs strong all the way to redline just sometime has a low idle im gunna try the egr cleaning just to rule the hardest thing out im doing suspension on the car tuesday so ill get back to you all

I have a '99 and had 4 codes including random misfire, misfire all cylinders, ignition system something something, and one more that I forgot. After I change the spark plugs, all 4 codes gone.
