speakers dont fit???
hey well i have a 97 civic hatchback CX. and recently baught some 6 1/2" rockford fosgate speakers because the people there told me it will fit in my car. but when i tried to install it, the magnet size is like too big to fit in the door panels? do i have to customize or am i supposd to get a smaller speaker size?? someone please help
You need to cut out the plastic basket to get them to fit. Test fit them with the window down though. If you cut the plastic and they hit the window, you'll need to buy/make some spacer rings to gain the depth you'll need. But if you space them out too far, the factory grilles won't snap back on.
^^ Damnit, beat me to it..
What model RF Speakers? You could cut the back of the oem speaker bracket for more mounting depth. If that isn't deep enough you're going to have to get some custom mdf wood brackets made.

eh.. so i have to cut the door panel itself? are there any speakers i could buy that'll fit without customizing? what could i use to cut the door panel if i were to cut it.. i dont have a dremel or anythin. they are t162c rockford fosgates
Not the door panel, the bracket that the speaker screws into. You could unscrew the bracket, and just cut the back with some cutters. You do not need a dremel, it'll make it easier/faster but not needed.
Not sure how the door panels are on civic hatches, but on integras, we have to take off our entire door panel to get to our speakers. I think civic's you could just take the front cover off to get to the speakers, if u can't unscrew the bracket off without taking the door panels off, u would just have to take it off.

The speaker grill will pop off from the door panel. 3 screws hold the speaker in. Unplug the wiring connector, and then you'll see the basket we're talking about... It's attached at the top, and open at the bottom. Cut that part out.
Or, if you're that concerned about the difficulty of removing a speaker grill and cutting some soft plastic, get some slimmer speakers like some low end pioneers... They'll fit right in without any modification... They'll sound like crap, but you won't have to cut anything.
And by the way; spend the 5-6 bucks and get the speaker adapter plugs so the new speakers will be plug and play, and you will not have to cut the factory plugs off...

Wow... this is quite comedic. *grabs a bag of popcorn*
Seriously kid, its not that confusing... 1) remove door panel(its easier, but not required) 2) remove stock speakers 3)remove black plastic speaker basket thingy 4) reconnect wires 5) mount speakers(this may require some "mild" modification). 6) reinstall door panel

Unfortunately mounting diameter is not given at R/Fs site... http://www.rockfordfosgate.com...en_US
What has not been mentioned is that the stock speaker is a standard 6.5" speaker, that uses a 5" diameter mounting hole and is just a hair under 2" in mounting depth, you may have an over-sized 6.5" speaker, needing a bigger then 5" diameter mounting hole, and it has a 2.5" mounting depth, that info should be on the spec sheet that come with the speakers, if not measure it.
There are more then a few standard 6.5" speakers that will fit without any mods in to your Civic.
