Default HELP when fuel is low, pump cuts off on right hand turns.

Do you guys think it would be a pump or sending unit thats gone?
It only does it when the fuel is at about a quarter or less.
I'm sure someone has gone through the same thing...it's driving me nuts.

300k
91 EX-R
5 spd

Thanks

I see you are no longer on-line but with that many miles and the age of the car I would suspect that your gauge is out of calibration and when it is showing 1/4 it is probably almost empty and starving the pump. i would try a new or junkyard guage first before replacing the pump. My civic has over 400k and even after filling up it never reads above 3/4! Just my opinion

may not be the guage but maybe the floater on the sending unit that guages how much fuel is in there. But I agree, maybe your lower on gas than what you see on the guage. How big is you gas tank? When you fill up after this happening, how much gas are you putting in? It's not an exact may of know for sure but it should give you an idea if you guage is off by a quarter tank of not.

do you think a faulty guage is whats causing this to happen?

I think you are partially correct as my guage is not completely percise—and I need to replace it, but I dont think it gonna stop the shudder of on and off fuel pressure to the motor on right hand turns when it's low on gas.

Anyone?

well its a standard 91 accord fuel tank...12 gallon (or 45l)
When it has lots of gas, there is no symptoms at all. only when it's gettin low.
I use it for delivery, and time is factor so sometimes I can't just fill up when ever, so it's used with little fuel in it sometimes. Having it jerk like crazy on right hand turns is embarrassing, and extremely annoying.

I'm very suspicious about the sending unit, it would cause my guage to be outtta wack. This is accessible from the trunk on these cars? —and the pump you have to drop the tank for...is it on the pump? I could jack the side of the caar up to similate right hand turns, and I'll check for votage and pressure...but thats alot of work

Has this happened to anyone else? And how did you correct the problem?

do you use a whole tank of gas during deliveries for the day?

if not, get up 5 minutes early and fill up with gas on your way in.

the sending unit wont fix your problem, it will just tell you that you really have less gas than you think you have. so your solution is still going to be to fill up with gas.

Hey buddy, that sounds like you may have a bad impact switch. You know, the little thing that cuts off the fuel in a collision? Good luck.

Thanks guys. BUT...I'm putting a boost setup on the stock motor..nothin big, just 10psi, but what if my fuel is a little low and I take a right hand turn.....wouldnt it lean out and go KABOOM?

I would say to just replace the fuel pump. I got a walbro 255lph for$100 off ebay. it works great and I am happy with it. either way with a turbo set up you dont want to run lean.

The reaqson I ask is because even though your guage shows 1/4 tank, do you only put in 9 gallons indicating proper gas guage readings or do you put in 11-12 gallons indicating your gas guage is way off and your gas level is much lower than what the guage reads.
