Default tranny problems

ok here goes well i posted on this forum a while ago about my girls 2000 accord ex. her tranny was acting wierd anyway i went to get the trany flushed and some new tranny fluid. and they found out it was leaking so they didnt charge me a thing so naturally i took it to a transmission speacialist. and they couldnt get on it for like a week so i called all these places and nobody was going to be able to get on it for a week. which sucked cuz that same day we were going on vacation. so when i got back from vacation i noticed that the tags are now expiered anyway what can be causing this leak. does it need new seals or what im lost i doubt its cracked. by the way its an automatic tranny and a f23 vtec single cam

Well don't know if this will help but I did a search in here and found some things about the F23 and its trans. I have a '98 CL with an F23a1 and auto tranny that I just rebuilt. That tranny has some problems. They have btw a 5-10% failure rate... usually second gear. But I believe leaks was another one of the problems too.

A trans. place will charge you somewhere around 400-500 to pull it out and look at it. This cost will of course will go towards any repairs they might have to do. That being said if they get in there and find serious problems you could easily end up spending $2000+ on getting it fixed(then you will need to get an extended warranty as most places are only going to offer something like a six month warranty).

If you go to Honda... If it is serious and the tranny needs to be replaced it will cost $2600 and this is including a 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty. They will not rebuild yours as they have a company that now provides them with refurbished trans. This means that the car shouldn't be in the shop to long b/c all they will have to do is pull yours and pop the new one in.(All though its not exactly as easy as I'm making it sound)

since the accord transmission for 6th gen does not have a pan and there are known problems with the differential, my guess is it is leaking from your axle seals.

How many miles on the car? uner 100K get it replaced for free at honda. it is under a 7 year 100K warranty

yo man... 1st mistake the shop did was...honda dont recommend tranny flushing....just drain and refill.....2nd them cheap lube oil change places...they always mess up cars...like putting the wrong tranny fluid in ur car n stuff.. i kno this cause i use to work for honda....and your oil leaks....check your axle seals......could be your rear main... but check ur axle seals 1st....

98-02 accords have taper style bearings in the differential, the first sign of a diff bearing going bad is a leak at the axle seal. The bad thing is that when the bearing goes south it contaminates the trans with little metal flakes that will soon make the shift valves bind up.
The good news is that the price of Genuine Honda reman trans units is under $1500 now. The reason is, they are trying to put people like me out of business, because my parts and labor to go thru, clean, and refurb a trans is around $1200.
I'm not in this business for my love of hondas
Honda knows about this problem because there is an extended warranty to 100k miles.
