Default Questions: Port and polish + removing valve seat

Question 1: When port and polishing, the first step removing material, do i mostly open up the port openings only? or do i go in with my bit and remove material to enlarge the inside of the bit too? might be a dumb question but be nice if someone can tell me.

Question 2: How do i remove Valve Seats?? Is there a special tool i have to use?

Thanks guys, i searched but it seems that most people dont remove their valve seats... but i need to so i can do the port work.

i dont see why you want to take your valve seats off... since you have to match the throats and racks with them on.. if you port and then get the seat put in, then the matching will be off again.
you start by improving on casting flaws and finish. Unless radical dont enlarge the intake ports.

you can really mess things up if you dont know what your doing

wouldnt recomned port and polish unless you are famillure with it, you could hurt the flow of the head if not done correctly, but you should be fine if just cleaning it up and making the casting flaws smoothe and all that

if you are working with a dremmel grinder i recomend finishing the ports with a adbrasive buff ball from dremmel. it will take all the rough surface you get from opening the port and smoothe it out....

Alright here are the pics. i marked what i was talkin about with the arrows thanks for the help mang
i Keep Hitting Those when I'm grinding and polishing Cuz It Protrudes Down Into The Ports

Since We're on this subject i wanna ask 2 more questions with this next pic
1.Where the green arrow is,i'm supposed to make that edge nice and "unsharp" right?
2.And Know i'm Not Supposed To Touch Where the valve seat is, but Should I Start Polishing From Where the red arrow is? or further back?

Thanks Again guys

you can grind on your guide, dont grind on your seat...dont polish on your seat. You have your machine shop grind a valve to sit flush when you polish your CC. But be VERY careful when you get close to the seat. I've taken out the guide down flush with the port with no problems whatsoever (non-honda app) If its your first time I wouldn't take a lot of material out... mostly polish. And make sure every port is the same...its easier if you do one small section of the each port then move on...not one port ...then the next. etc. good luck

A good place to get porting tools is from http://www.mondello.com Tell Gentle Joe that the Eric the guy who continually looses the mandrels for sanding cartridges sent you lol. he got pretty upset that I lost the last three he sent me...lol i was like...they were all still taped together!

back from the dead:
how do you remove the valve seats?

reason, the casting is shot - I figure all I can do with it is recycle the aluminum...but it has to be completely bare before they will take it.

some people use a welder to contract the seat and make it pop out
