Default HKS Turbo Kit + A'PEXi Power FC

Hi guys, as my first topic on Honda-Tech I hope this is a decent one.

I've bought a Power FC for my 97 GSR DC2. I'm located in Australia, so finding parts in the USA is a) expensive b) shipping is more difficult than from japan.

In a perfect world, I'd buy a full-race kit, but I really don't have the 4,500-5,000 dollars Australian to purchase one of their kits.

I'm looking at a HKS Bolt on Turbo Kit, it's about 2,600. It doesn't come with an intercooler like Full-Race, but that shouldn't matter, piping and getting one put on can be fabricated easy by someone who knows what they are doing. Yes?

Is a T25G 60T A/R0.64 HKS turbo big / good enough to make some decent whp on a stock GSR motor. We run similar RON fuel from the pump as our Japanese friends.

What advice do you have for me? Has anyone used one of these kits, I know everyone on Honda-Tech blows their load when talking about Full-Race, but the exchange rate isn't in my favour.

I chose Power FC over Hondata because most Tuners here can do power FC, and the guy who is the distributor for Hondata in my end of the world isn't someone I would be happy to do business with.

Thanks for your patience.

I did some searching and it looks like that turbo is good for around 250 bhp@15 psi on a SR20DET.
You won't get High numbers with it though..it's just a T25 with bigger turbine housing, compressor housing and redesigned comp wheel. Some came with BB

Hmm, see, I'd like a little more power after i rebuild it with forged parts, but a) i don't plan on doing that for a little while, i'd prefer to get used to the power i've got, i've never had a boosted engine before. and I don't want to run a stock engine on 15psi.

Any suggestions of decently priced, manifold and turbo combinations?

I mean, as I said, I'd love Full-Race, but I can't afford 5K for manifold, turbo, etc. an then have to pay for injectors. I understand that it's the best out there, but I'm still at college.

I believe that HKS has an upgrade to the HKS GT2835 (which has very similar specs to the GT3071 for us cheaper American cats.) That would be a much better choice than the T25 itself, which you may be confusing simply the flanging to the one you're referring to.

I've seen a few HKS kit work well, but it really depends upon what you're trying to achieve, for big HP, you may want to wait, and get the expensive American stuff, or hell, get a R32 used and be done with it..

Help in terms of what? What is it you're really trying to ask more of? I think that is why you're not getting any responses here. please be more specific.

well, thanks for your patience.

I mean, what kind of options out there would help me make say, more than an HKS kit, but don't have the price tag of a Full-Race.com kit.

I mean, the GReddy turbo seems too small and has insufficient engine management.
I've not heard of anyone in Australia using a drag kit, or rev hard.
I've been told the A'PEXi kit is pretty small turbo also.
I don't mind spending more time researching and stuff, and buying things as I see fit, but what I don't have in Australia is a vast amount of people that have turbo'd their b series motors.

it seems to be a US thing. Here it's all about NA

I mean, I don't wanna say, Hey, help me make 300 wheel horse power, I want people to tell me about their experiences with what they have, what kinda turbo, trim, and price, manifold, etc. intercooler. parts that really don't matter, like bov, etc, as long as they're functional, don't need an explanation.

Injectors would prolly be RC eng. 550's and a walbro fuel pump, so dont worry about fuel management, that's easy. I've got standalone ecu already.

So yeah, turbo, trim, manifold, brands, etc. when you hit boost, and approx price. THat would be really helpful, and what kinda things did you encounter that wasn't expected.

It would be of real help.

Thanks for responding. I think you're ok, but you'll need to look in MANY posts and threads here before people will start putting all these setups on here. It's really a broad request, for there are some that go for 300whp or 600whp, there choices are ridiculously endless here in the U.S. Check out some owners of setups of what you think you may like instead of asking for everyone to post setups. It stops the redundancy and keeps the forum from going off-topic. You'll need to start searching yoursef.

One idea could be:
You can get the Greddy intercooler and piping kit, purchase the HKS T2 manifold, and have about 10 choices of turbos to use for the powergoals you're looking for. If you're looking for more streetability Using a Garrett T2 flanged GT3071, GT3076 or GT2871 would bolt right up to the manifold from HKS. Since these companies are more accessible in Australia. You can Use HKS F-Con or E-manage, or Power FC in your area. Hondata also has a decent dealer list down under as well. Check out Hondata's website to see about a tuner in your area.
When you see these kits about which turbo is "small", also look at what you want to acheive. You'd be suprised what even the kits can do.

The one difficulty in answering your question is because of the fact that "cheaper" is a relative term that is used to describe a turbo setup. What may be less expensive and highly accessible in the U.S., may not be the same way for your neck of the woods, and vice versa. I've seen plenty of Turbo Hondas as of late down under. (Mainly Melbourne for some reason) ,

Some will say that Chrome Pro, Neptune, and Uberdata are "cheaper", but what they forget is that availability of the parts used to create the system is much more difficult to obtain in Australia. than in the states, so once again, what's cheap to others on this forum may not be "cheap" to you. It may be easier to use what is available there, those some people here will say "damn that's expensive", simply because availability of a certain part in the U.S. is low.

Start reading, my friend.
