Default What are symptoms of a leaking head gasket?

My friend has a 95? Eclispse RS (I know, this is a Honda forum) and he's smelling gas after he shuts the car off. The mechanic had told hiim he had a bad head gasket. What are some symptoms of a bad head gasket and what is involved in replacing one?

-White smoke from the exhaust (burning coolant)
-Oil leaking on the block
-Low compression
-Air in the radiator (compressing in the coolant system)

Regarding a fuel smell, It may be possible that it is the head gasket but IMO not probable. I would check the fuel lines first.

Good luck
