Default mini me swap questions...

Ok, I have a deal to pick up a complete Y8 for $140

I obviously have the option of just swapping the whole motor and tranny.

Is there any benefit to retaining the Y7 block and mating it with the Y8 head?

I was talking to a tuner today and he said the bottom end of a Y7 and a Y8 block are the same as far as he knows. (he never played with a Y7) If this is true then there is no benefit over a "mini me" vs a Y8. He said to actually make it create anything big you need to take the middle layer out of the head gasket, at which point you need to run 93 octane.

QUESTIONS:

IF he is wrong and mating the Y8 head to the Y7 block is better than a straight Y8 then my question becomes why?

and will it need tuned after swapping or will a stock Y8 ECU be fine?

and lastly can I run regular fuel still?

Thanks in advance!

PS. My civic is a 96 and would be swapping in a 98 or 98 parts.

i would take the whole y8, cause then you get the tranny. y8 tranny has shorter gears for better acceleration. for that price take it, i think a y7/y8 mini me will get you a bit higher compression than what a y8 has by itself. only by a couple points though. you shouldn't need tuning on a dyno, just get the y8 ecu obviously or no vtec

the compression ratio on the y7/y8 mini is higher, than the stock y8, on the vtec note all you really have to do is get the complete y8 head and ur all set, im runing a p08 ecu untuned at the moment (big mistake) all i have to do is wire vtec and im good to go. do wat u want to do. its ur car.

go with the complete y8. the transmission is better, and a complete swap will save you a lot of time over swapping the heads.

I will do what I want in the end. The question becomes... how is a mini me higher compression? If the block and all is the same why is it higher compression when doing a mini me?

HAHA... from my research so far there is no difference what so ever in the bottom ends so it would just be easier to swap teh whole thing. ECU, wiring, head, block and tranny.

Then I will do an intake, and full exhaust.

i say go with the full motor like everyone else suggested... also mini-me's arnt always as reliable as a full motor swap.
