Have both y8 and z6 longblocks. What parts to choose for minime
I am buying a blown y8 swap and buying a full z6 swap.
I am going to be turboing my y7 at the same time as doing the mini me swap. WHat id like to know is what parts I should use from the y8 and which parts from the z6.
I.E. intake manifold, head etc.
Also i would like to know if its worth putting the z6 tranny on my y7. I know the ex/si tranny's have better gearing stock for stock but will that matter since ill be turbo?
I dont have the y8 tranny but i will have the z6 tranny

put the y8 head on the y7, its easier i think.
if u put the z6 head on the y7 ull probably have to mix and match a few parts, i THINK you might have to get 9 y7 y8 headstuds and 1 z6 head stud.....
but the z6 head is alot better when it comes to tuning, as the y8 head doesnt like alot of timing....or so ive read

use the z6 block if you use a y block and plan on turboing expect to have issues with low oil pressure unless you upgrade the pump

the y series blocks are notorious for spun rod bearings due to lack of oil....

someone correct me if I am wrong but the z6 is already vtec. If you are getting a complete z6 motor then what is the point of doing a mini me swap? You only end up with a motor with almost identical hp numbers. It make almost no sense unless the z6 is blown. The other part of your ? is yes the z6 trans has the better gearing and should be used
