I turned it on, and there was just a high pitched whirring noise and then i got out and opened the hood and it kinda smelled like something was burning. so i turned it off and turned it back on and it was fine... im guessing this isnt good

Might be your alternator, that would smell like burnt hair and make a whirring noise if it was toast. Any CELs or electric indicator on dash (battery symbol)?

Check all your hoses and belts to make sure nothing was rubbing or leaking too. Has this happened again yet?
