Default Integra GSR Problems...

My buddy bought a gsr with a rebuilt B18C1 engine... the problem is that he runs way slower than what he should be...

runs 16's which is horrible...

but yeah, he said that vtec is set to hit at 4 grand but when he drives it... you can feel it kick in at 4 a little but then it hits hard at 6 like vtec should hit... "like it needs to build up pressure"

im just wondering does anyone know what is wrong with it? cuz i might be thinking of buying it

GSR's will have a 'feeling' of VTEC kicking in 2 times throughout each gear because of the design of the Intake Manifold. Do a compresion test to see if there are any problems internally

if the vtec is coming on, chances are that the solenoid is working fine. if it werent, you might set a vtec system malfunction code.
but it wont hurt either way to remove it and clean it out. so go for it!

is it a stock rebuild? why is vtec set at 4k? first off if its stock i would run stock ecu w/ stock vtec engagement. maybe do a compression/leak down test..maybe even a baseline dynorun

16's? thats not good but its hard to use 1/4 times alone to determaine how fast it is...there are a lot of variables..traction..60ft times..shift point.

There's no reason for VTEC to come on any earlier than what is stock for a stock motor. Honda obviously has it set up that way for a reason. The motor in that trim is optimized for that VTEC setting.

Next time Vtec hits, hit it back.

how about something simple....check to make sure there is enough oil in it. I know it seems kinda stupid, but mine burned oil and it ran slow when it needed oil. You could also check the spark plugs, wires, and cap.
