Is it possible to fit a B16/LS Hydro Diff into a GSR Case?
Just as the title states, I was planning on doing a hybrid tranny but the prices got out of hand so that is out. I have an Hydro LS now w/ a Quaife and I thought I have read somewhere that the Diff will work in a GSR with a modification of the case, what is the modification?
no modifications to the case is needed. the diff will fit but you will need to find the proper ring gear to match up with the pinion gear on the counter shaft.
if you plan to use the GSR pinion/gear-set you will need a 4.40 66-tooth ring gear from a hydro B16 trans to fit the LS/B16 quaife diff. this is very important and kinda hard to find. the GS-R 4.40 ring gear WILL NOT fit the LS/B16 diff.
also make sure you have the proper diff bearings and check for proper clearances.
i did the exact same thing you are planning on doing......it was allot of work but it paid off pretty well.
****edit**** send a PM to smokey2.0 i bought a B16 diff gear from him and he might have a couple more.

Thanks for the info
Do you think it would be easier to just buy the ring gear new from Honda? I was planning on buying an OEM B16 FD so that is taken care of. It sounds like alot of work but it seems to be alot less work than that hybrid mess I was about to get myself into.

ya it would be easier to order a new ring gear from honda....i think there about 150 bucks or so.....you can find one used for less than half that price though..
Is there any good aftermarket 4.40 FD's? I saw Infinitude had them but they were all 4.78+ and a 4.05 which would make an B16 longer than an LS with its 4.266.
