hey while on the subject, has anyone on here taken off all of their tint themselves before having their car tinted? if so, what is the procedure for the back window?
25% on sides whatever you want in the back. I'm near the Dallas area, and have 25 on the sides, 5 on rear sides and back window.
I've taken the tint off before. I usually heat up one corner of it with a blow dryer (now I use a flame torch). Heat it up from the outside. Then carefully start slowly peeling it off from one corner, and be careful to do it all in one piece. You DON"T want to be scraping it off with a razor, that'll mean you'll have to scrub glue and other pieces off, and you'll probably damage the defroster. Make sure not to rip it. I like to let the car sit in the sun for while to heat up the back window.
You can also get some solvent that helps cut through the glue. I usually spray that on while removing the old tint, and then wash up the window really well before new tint is applied.

15-20% looks good, but you should ask a tint shop what the limit is for texas unless you dont care then 15-20% is good. Dark enough for people to not see in easily but also good for at night so you can still see through it.

From what I understand, the real limit in texas is 24% but all the shops do 25. I found this out when I was trying to get a shop to install 15% on the sides and as dark as possible in the back. No one would do it, apparently it's illegal to even install tint that's too dark, not just drive around with it.

I'm actually in FL right now, I'll get back on tue and can post pics if you want. What do you mean as far as "is it too dark"? You mean legally? or cosmetically? It's legal, but it's not all that dark visually. At night it's pretty good.
