Default pr3 vs. pw0

I got a pw0 with my b16 swap. It seems that people say to get the pr3 because the pw0 is auto - is that always 100% true. I thought the pw0 is from the SiR, which isnt auto. Can someone clear this up for me. Reason being is I may need another ecu and I wanna make sure I get the best one.

99.9% of the PW0 ecu's came from the EF Civic/CR-X and the 99.9% of the PR3's cam from the DA Teg's which had the option of having a Auto Tranny as a option... So the PR3 and PW0 are very similar but most Japanese ECU rom tuners prefer the PR3 ..?? Something to do with a tad' bit more resolution.??? Don't know for sure on that one because of the loose translation
hope this helps ya'

The PR3 ecu supposedly can be chipped easier than the PW0. I also have seen that there are more modification programs offered for the PR3 than the PW0.

PR3 has a higher redline (8200 I think), some Pw0s are auto some are manual..I have the manual version I can take it up to 8000. The auto pw0 redline is 7600. There are more programs available for the pr3, but I think there are programs for the pw0 as long as it is the 5 speed version. For the auto version the only program Ive seen is they can change it to the pw0 5 speed program.

You can test what version you have just by the revs, or if you get under the passenger side and look at the ecu case it should have a number on the side starting with AA or AB. If it says AA you have the 5 speed version, AB-auto. The cams are also supposed to be weaker in the auto version also.

If youre looking to just get your ecu reprogrammed there you could just stick with the pwo if its 5 speed, or if you really want that pr3, then you could keep the pw0 as a spare I guess.

Ive seen pr3s for sale on the boards, you can look on ebay sometimes people are selling rechipped pr3s for around 150-200.

Well actually all pr3's are from tegs but come either obd1 or non obd, and all pw0's are form ef9 civics. All pw0's are manual since the ef9 never came in automatic, and the pr3's have both. To tell if you have an auto or manual, the only sure way to find out so far are either check the redline, as the auto will be 7600, and the manual is 8100, or open the case and check the little daughter board and in the corner it'll say either MT for manual transmission or AT for automatic transmission. Cuz i thought the aa and ab was true too, until i got mine and it is an AB but manual. But the pr3 has more chipping possiblities, but the pw0 is not bad either. HTH
