Default Hey...I snapped a head bolt---

So I was tightening down my headbolts on my 99 lx....
and
SNAP---

I put it back in, with some jb weld to try to hold the bolt together tempoararily.

What is the fix on this? machine shop, drill out the hole, new head bolt?

Thanks in advance

Did I read that right that you JB welded the actual bolt? Never heard anyone do that before.
If you can get the broken bolt out then replace it ASAP. If not then try to drill it out.

anyone know how to get the broken piece of screw thats down in there out, without drilling?

Maybe some secret or something?

Is this an expensive thing to fix....?

yes get a thread out set. then you drill a hole into the bolt (but smaller in die then the bolt) Thread the thread out into the bolt and back it out with that tool. Take your time and work slow you don't want to have to take the block into a shop and have it drilled out and re threaded. Oh and while you are at it the threads are going to be f'd up so run a thread chaser down the threads

That is a bummer. I remove tons of broken screws/bolts/studs on machinery where I work. The hardest part is drilling a hole in the broken stud. Where it is broke is probably jagged and might be hard to get a hole started. The bit will wander. A center punch and hammer may help get you started, but you may need to make the top of the broken stud flat with a die grinder so you can punch it. Or, you might need/want something solid like a piece of steel with a hole in it to guide the bit and keep it from wandering. Once I get it going and am drilling I watch to see if the drill makes the stud spin. If it does I put the drill in reverse and try to back it out. A left handed drill bit -if I can find one- works good for that.
Those ez out extractors sometimes work for me. More often they don't. God help you if you break a drill bit or the extractor off inside the hole (done it a few times- especially with a small drill bit) Then you may be welding something onto the stud, like a nut and turning that way.
Good Luck - let us know how it goes!

i've done that before. the thing you need to realize is that without the tension of the torqued down bolt head, theres nothing holding the remaining part in. it will just come right out once you get it going. get an easy out set. or if you can(if its sticking out far enough) try to use a dremel and cut a slit in it. then you can screw it out with a regular screwdriver. theres almost no resistance either

Oh, just to let everyone know, no I wasnt lucky....it snapped down inside the hole, I mean its about a 1/4 inch into the whole, nothing above the break to grab onto
