Engine Restorer vs CD2 Almite
Hello Civic fans,
I've got a 91 DX, D series 1.5L, 92 horsepower, with worn rings. Burns a lot of oil. I'd like to get about two more years out of the engine.
Question: Should I use
1) Engine Restorer?
2) CD2 Stop Leak w/ Almite?
3) Rislone Piston Ring Seal additive?
4) Don't use ANY 'stop leak' product and just keep topping it off w/ fresh oil?
Would a "restore" type product be less risky to use in a clean engine as opposed to a sludgemonster w/ carbon deposits?
I have done several searches and found differences of opinion on 'Stop Leak' products.
I've already been cleaning the engine with AutoRX which is similar to an engine flush type product. Once the cleaning is complete i plan to add the 'stop leak' to the oil. I'm hoping getting the engine clean before the 'stop leak' stuff will minimize the chance of 'stop leak' gunking up my engine to the point of failure.
Compression is decent but it burns a lot of oil. It's not the PCV or Vavles or leaky gasket. I would like to get a year or two more out of the engine before a swap or other upgrade.
People have recomended Engine Restorer. It's cheaper than a rebuild.
Your thoughts? Thanks for reading.

JUST KEEP TOPPING OFF WITH FRESH OIL BETWEEN CHANGES,^whats with the yelling^^ and since your gonna be topping frequently, change your oil about every 5000 miles now. itll save money.
I dont like anything you add to your oil. I've only heard bad things about it. If your really concerned, run that high milage oil.
This ring sealer buisness sounds like it should work, but if it seals the rings, what else is it going to gunk up on?

i don't know about stoping a leak but i use engine restorer once and my rockers where noticeably cleaner so it does clean but don't know about to seal any leaks i''m just going to swap my motor for another d15b2 and then rebuild the d15b2 i take out.(it's for the gf she wants it stock)
I wouldnt use any engine seal addatives, but you can run regular risolone in the yellow bottle that is just a very refined oil with extra detergents added that will actually clean the motor. My local honda dealer uses it on cars that come off of lease to clean out the engines of cars that got 15,000 mile oil changes
The only addative I would use is something that contains submicronic Moly(molybdenum) this is one of the only addatives proven to actually do anything, do a google search on it

Thanks to everyone for the replies.
joeny12985, i would not ever consider Restore if i wasn't burning oil. I wouldn't use Resore for cleaning. I've used Auto Rx for cleaning and i noticed dramatic improvement. The engine runs much better, much smoother, no more pinging.
Auto Rx is a favorite product on this forum:

(Note: I was burning oil years before i tried Auto Rx. Auto Rx did NOT cause my oil burning.)
Crx Jimmy,
I've read good things about Hondas using oil with Moly. I know that some motor oils have moly already in them (maybe Schaefers). I might go with the pre mixed oil instead of the additive. Thanks for the reminder.

I've tried everything there is to try. Even tried this stuff called White Shepard for $20 a bottle.
I'm still driving on the b7, it will burn about a quart/100 miles normally. I use 20w50 oil around town, that cuts down the burning quite a bit. On longer trips, I put some stuff in that's similar to the STP additive, it's just super thick stuff - I get mine from big lots for $1.80/bottle. My reasoning behind only using that stuff on long trips is because I don't need to start it cold with that stuff in it. When I get close to my destination, I just top it off with more 20/50 and run it a bit to let it mix in.
So far it's worked for me, I have about 10k miles on the b7 since putting it in and it's been burning oil for all of those 10k.
Good luck!!!!!
i have used engine restore and had good luck with compression issues but never used it to stop a car from burning oil. some of my customers switch to 15w40 oil
