Is it safe to drive without a vehicle speed sensor?
I might be buying a car with a bad vss and i have to drive it back home like 2 hours. Is it safe? Mostly highway miles. Them it will sit until i get the vss for it.
You just won't know how fast you are driving. I don't see a problem if you go with the flow of traffic. Oh, and your odometer will be off.

correct so that could also be a mileage problem since you wont really know how long it has been bad, I am pretty sure the guy who is selling will say "Yea well it just went out on me last week, so i stopped driving it" or something like that.

Cool. I really didn't think it would be a problem. I did think about that whole thing with the mileage. I trust this guy. Thanks.
mind been screwed for 3 months and im too lazy and busy to get it fixed. so yes there is about 2000 kms short in my odo(swapped a EK9 cluster mileage doesnt matter now anyways ) , and 5th gear 3500 is 100kmh around anyways, so beside that nothing else need to be concerned.

no VTEC, the ECU will not know which gear you are in so it will run rich and retard timing.
just fix it, it's not expencive to replace.
OP, if you need one I have the one out of my 92 hatch sitting here.

It's not my car that has the bad vss. It is the car that i might be buying that has the bad vss. And i will get it fixed when i get it back home. I would only be driving it on the highway for like 2 hours. Thanks for the replies.

I've been driving without my VSS working for about3 months. It doesn't seem to harm anything but I would like to know how fast I'm going. I've bough several used VSS but differen't year and model. Then I finally bought new and still not workin only sometimes? any ideas?

if you let out the clutch yes.
it calculates the gear based on the engine RPM and vehicle speed.
if it sees no speed it will asume you are not in gear, which of course is leaner. Which can cause problems if you push the car.
the reason for no VTEC is the VTEC speed check, ie VTEC will not actuate unless you are moving over a certain speed. All though this can be disabled.
