Default b18b pros and cons?

People who have done or know, what made you decide to do a b18b swap instead of other engines? Whats some pros and cons? I just need some feedback because if i plan on getting a b18b i might turbocharge it later on.

B18B
This is the motor in the non Type-R and non GSR Integra.

Pros
Good torque for a 1.8L (127 ft/lbs)
Inexpensive (even cheaper than a B16)
142 hp (more than any stock D series)
Boost heads love them

Cons
No VTEC
Longest B series transmission

It just depends on wether you want all motor or if your going to boost it. all motor it would'nt be the best swap but if your boost it, for the money, it would be pretty good swap.

I think some of the pros are it has nice torque (compard to the B16 and D16) and puts out a nice hp range as a stock motor, also with the larger displacement it's more "agreeable" to bolt-ons (I/H/E, etc.)

I think the biggest con is the LS engines have no vtec, but w/ that asside there aren't really any major cons to this engine (unless you think the smaller than 2.0 displacement kills you in the torque department).. It really is a good engine stock or Ls/Vtec in my opinion, regardless of what others say...

My frind has one...an LS....in his LS Integra (stock ****), and it really pulls nicely in my opinion for no vtec, boost, or I/H/E, (completely stock) nicer than I thought it would..

It has longer gearing than the rest of the B-series trannys.

This doesn't affect redline at all, just how fast the car can accelerate.

Could people swap in a new tranny instead to get the car to accelerate faster? I hate cars that accelerate slow..

I use to have a BONE STOCK LS INTEG and it pulled pretty damn good for the first 3 RPM. So, as far as acceleration goes u don't have to worry too much . HELL my my 94 INTEG LS would pull the **** out of my EM1 right off the line. But watch out...when my EM1 VTEC comes in..its bye bye LS =/.

What you guys think bout b20? Good torque on low end and Vtec for the high end. Is high boost even good with b20

I have a b18b1 in my eg with a gsr tranny, imo it pulls pretty damn well. Basicly all bolt on's too, edelbrock tb, blox im, i/h/e/hi-flow cat, aftermarket clutch and lightened flywheel, but my car is also gutted so that helps. With some internals and machine work it could be one nasty engine in the right car i think, not to mention if you're looking to boost there's a 200+ page thread of boosted ls motors putting down 300+hp on stock internals...can't really beat that.

i love my B20... more torque than a B18... its been an awesome autox engine! good on the track too, road course that is.. needs more top end really! my first time in the 1/4 mile i did 15.1 with slipping clutch, passenger, full interior and crap exhaust!

B20 came in the CRV and is a NON-VTEC motor.

i think honda should have put the b18b in all civic instead of the d series. LS has great torque especially on the freeway. I think if your looking for a good swap to leave alone and not do much to. The LS is wat u wanna do

The B20 is good, it's better if u put a GSR head on it (It doesn't have vtec stock)

Yes, you can put a B16 tranny in there and the thing'll haul ***, only problem is like it was stated earlier, u'll be arond 4.7k RPM's at about 80mph

Shorter gears are better for low end torque and acceleration while longer gears are better for top end cruising..

I"m more of a longer gear kinda guy because of the fact that it's more versitle, you don't have to worry about holding long RPM's on a highway, but on the same token, if u need more torque, downshifting is always a very very easy option...guess it depends on the person

I would rather have a b16 head, flows alot better than even gsr head. with a lil modification for valve clearence. hell of a swap. just my opinion.

Just wanted to correct you earlier, the redline for an ls is 6800 not 7500, and if you went with a b16 or gsr tranny you could always change the final drive for better expressway driving. All depends on what you want to do.

Yeah umm

Either of those heads will work, I didin't know a B16a2 would flow better than a B18c1 so thx for that info..my point was that if he slapped a B series vtec head on it, he could have vtec...guess that point got lost, eh?
