98 ex wont go into gear...lots of grinding...clutch feels wierd...help!
This is a very recent (within the last 10 days) problem with the car. Whenever I start it, it grinds like hell when i try to put it into gear...sometimes I am able to jam it into gear (with some grinding), and if I can, then it works okay afterward until the car stops and cools down again. Today, I started it in reverse and the car made a bunch of funky, unhealthy noises (a mix of engine struggling and transmission noise). I tried to get it out of reverse but it was totally stuck. As soon as I turned it off, it came out of reverse easily. When I started it back up, it would not get into gear (not even close this time) and grinded A LOT when I tried to put it in any gear (tried 1, 2, 3 and R)...it was as if I wasn't pressing in the clutch at all. The peddle also feels a little off, so I thought it might need an adjustment, but a mechanic told me that hydrolics don't have any adjustments that one can make. Does anyone know what could be wrong? I've had this clutch (exedy stage 1 with act 12 lb flywheel) for 3 years and 30,000 mi. with no problems before. I'm hoping this isn't too expensive. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. THANKS!!!
something in the hydraulic is bad, either clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder. I have a 97 and this happened to me. it was a bad slave cylinder. Usually mechanics recommend replacing both.
runnerdown, how much did it end up costing you to replace those? Also, does anyone know if the slave cylinder and master cylinder from an exedy stage one are different than any oem ones?
