Default Need opinions on which direction to take...

Sup Guys,
Okay....I just picked up a clean Black 91 CRX Si....I need some help with the direction of the build-up of my new toy.
I basically want a quick street car that I can take to autocross/road racing events. I don't plan on drag racing it, so quarter mile times aren't as important.

The miles are relatively low (100k) (for an 11 yr old car) and the engine is strong and still pulls hard.
I'm leaning towards boost...would you guys recommend turbo'ing my Si engine or....a mini-me set-up/turbo? or even any other set-up idea's. I want to keep the budget in the 1500-3000 range

Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

If you want to do autocross, you should check the rules to find out what mods are alowed for certain classes and go from there. I'd also focus on suspension first If you're gonna race.

I agree with thumpu77. If you do a lot of mods without consulting a rule book you might get bumped to a higher class where you won't be competive. Goodluck

thanks, that's a good point...suspension is the first thing i'm concentrating on....koni yellows with HR race springs with some decent tires are the first things on my list. I guess I was thinking beyond that....

Your most likely gonna want to go all motor because of the stress put on the motor when autocrossing and the amount you would need to spend in order to build a turbo motor.. I personally would rather go with a nice GSR Type R or ls vtec setup with motor work (ie port polishing, cams, mill head to raise compression, oversized pistions if nessasary or a stroker kit)... ive seen minimum work done to type r motors and seen them run 12.7 in the quarter mile.. plenty of torque and speed and who doesnt love the way vtec sings specially in a modded type R. Just my 2 cents in this situation im sure there are other opinions to consider hope it helps.

Couldn't agree more, but plan on running the modified class.

How 'bout a "mild build up of the current si motor..i.e...
Vtec head "mini-me"
cams, p&p etc....worth it? Enough power?

http://www.homemadeturbo.com all you need is there. Look at all there turbo setups they did. Spend your money on suspension. cause a Si turbo is fast enough already for autocross and daily driving. Plus you keep all your:

reliability
resale
insurance
class choice

Koni yellows on neuspeed race are nice setup with your stock 14" wheels and new tires that are like 195/50/zr14 or something

Turbo d16a6 running 5 psi saftly is about 145 WHP. Quiet respectable for only spending about 400 US

definitely check classes, if you care about wining. if it were me id buy a zc motor and do a light build up on it and do some handling improvements while turning wrenches on the zc.
my b16 was suppose to be here last week, but this week for sure. i wish you lived in oregon sounds like we have similar tastes,

derek
