d16y8 rod bearings
anyone know how difficult it is to change the rod bearings in a d16y8? because i have a really good deal on one ($275) it includes axles tranny ecu harness the whole nine yards. and the engine is already out of the car being brought down to me, so i was wandering if anyone had any info on how difficult it would be changing that. i'm mechanically inclined well. thanks guys
Its not too hard but you will need instructions with info on which bolts to tighten first and how tight to tighten them. This info is crucal to preventing block warpage.
also its not exact whether its that or a bent valve, because he ran the car up onto a trailer fine, and i thought bearings locked the engine up? but its making a clanking sound.

sounds like you have a spun bearing.
Do not try to just slap new bearings back in. same thing happened to me and I just slapped new rod bearings in. Started up fine, and 2 secs later the knocking came right back.
Since the motor is out, get the crank to a machine shop to see how much the journal has been eroded.
Your options include;
1. Getting your crank grinded(aka cut) to undersize dimensions with non OEM bearings possibly ACL or clevite which work just as well.
2. Getting an already cut crank from the machine shop supplied with the bearings.
3. finding a used crank in the classifieds and sourcing the bearings yourself. have a shop check the total runout meaning to see if it out of spec/ bent.
4. Getting a brand new crank from the dealer or (hondaautomotiveparts.com). still a pretty penny. You will still need to buy the OEM bearings separately. In this case, you will need 8 rod bearings (color coded depending on the numbers on your crank and block), main journal bearings(also color coded as above) and 2 thrust washers.
Good luck.
