Problems getting into gear
Yesterday I noticed that my shifter would rotate a little bit when I would take it out of gear. Maybe 1/2" to the left or right. So here's my problem, I can't get it into 1,2,5, or R without really pushing my shifter ALL the way to the right or left and even then sometimes it doesn't go in and I start off in 3 or 4th. Can anybody tell me how to fix this or tell me what's going on?
Item 14 might be bent aswell. Bent shift linkages are a PITA.
Bad bushings might throw you of the gear and be forcing it in.
You might no have tranny fluid making it REALLY hard to drive. Or you might of burnt the fluid to a point where it won't do any good. Or your tranny is shot.

Would my tranny be shot if I just have troubles getting it into those gears and my **** turns a little? I can get it into 3rd and 4th just fine but any gears on the far left or right I have to really push the shifter far over and then get it in. It just seems like the gates to 3rd and 4th got really wide all of a sudden and the other ones on the sides got really small. I honestly don't know anything about the linkage or the shifter other than getting it into gears or what the bushings do. Any help will do.
ok so u don't know anything about shift linkage it time to leaner go out and jack the car up and crawl under and look u have a pic so see if 1# is broke and if # 14 and 15 have alot of play inthem when its in gear. or crawl under there and take a pic of the linkage and shift the assmebly.
it hard to say what wrong with out a pic.

Well I have been under the car and I know what the shift linkage looks like and everything, I looked this morning before going out to work, I just didn't look to see if anything was broke or loose. Ill check to see if #1 is broke and if #14 and 15 have some play and repost. Will also try to take a couple of pics when I get home. Thanks for the help so far. BTW if #1 was broke wouldn't I be unable to shift at all and what would be the problem if #14 and 15 have a lot of play in them while in gear?

# 1 can be broke on the side where the bolt that goes throw the shifter to the linkage thats what would allow u to rotate the shifter. but with 14 and 15 a little play is ok but a lot is not good if the car is in neutral they should move and the bushings are what hold 14 and 15 were they need to be to shift into and out of gear. the bushing just hold the linkage in its place.
i had a short shifter from ebay and the base of it cracked and broke and i can't get it in 2nd or 3rd sometimes. and i didn't even know that was the problem intell i put my b16a in and had to change linkages

Well I was driving home from work, and I had it in 5th gear on the highway when I heard these two pops, I went to move my shifter and it didn't do anything at all. It just moved around in circles, I hurried up and ripped up the leather casing surrounding it, sorry don't know what it's called, and found that the bolt holding my shift linkage and shifter had popped out.
So I got to my exit and pulled over since I couldn't shift at all, called the tow truck, got it back to my house, then put it up on jacks, measured the width of the linkage and the bottom of the shift ****. Then I went to Lowe's picked up a couple lock washers, a bolt, and a lock nut, went home and got it reconnected.
All in all, it turned out really good, only cost me $1.26 for those parts and got the problem solved, not to mention it's a little stiffer when I shift now, it goes in more smoothly than before at least. So I'm very satisfied, was a cheap fix. And my insurance paid for the tow truck if you were wondering.
