mild engine build? Please help!

So I am going to do I mild build of my block and want to get some recomendations advise etc.
I wanna get some new pistons and rods rings etc.
Without sleeveing what kind of pistons, rods, and rings should I get? Brands part #'s if possible. My engine doesn't currently burn any oil, so I am not planning to have any machine work done to the block! Is this OK? Should I get the crank balanced?
Later I am planning to build the head with new cams, valves, springs etc. and will prolly go to a thinner head gasket to bump comp. slightly!
Is there anything I am missing? Anything else I will need?

As most honda junkies will tell you, the power is in the head.
Without sleeving, look at Type S pistons. They will be the cheapest. You can get them from inlinefour.com
http://www.inlinefour.com/jdmhonoempis.html
Absolutely you should have the crank balanced and polished.
Laskey Racing can do it for you.

At some point you should look at a good header. I recommend SMSP.

I would look into getting some Mahle gold series pistons. They go up to 11.5:1 compression and do not require getting the block sleeved. Also the higher compression will help out drastically with your head when you do get it done. The stock rods will do fine for a mild build, but I would definitely get the main bearings replaced. If you want something stronger, look into eagle rods. Might also want to get the cylinder walls hatched to help the piston rings seat. Ratating assembly balancing is something I would really consider doing. Also look into doing the H22 to H23 manual timing belt tensioner with either the Power enterprise or Greddy timing belts, Greddy also makes the balacer belts too but you can get rid of the balancer shafts all together if you wish to do so. If the motor is high mileage I would consider replacing the oil/water pumps. And last but not least get some ARP head studs. Good luck with the build.

Yes pistons, I am going to get the best I can afford either type S or maybe Mahle.
What is cylinder wall hatcheing?
Rotating assembly is just the crank right? I am getting my H23 crank balanced and micro polished for sure!
I already did the tensioner swap!
I should prolly consider the oil pump, as I didn't do it when I bought the swap.
The ARP head studs will wait till I do my head! But are deff being planned

were we not discussing this in your other thread ?

Read. and when you are done Read some more. Plan ahead. Have a game plan or you are just going to blow your money. What do you want the final outcome of this to be ? track car ? daily driver ?

Cylinder hatching is what they do to help with seating the piston rings. Just think of it like a file. It files the rings to match the bore. As for the balancing. You need to do the entire rotating assembly. Pistons, rods, Crank, ect... What are your plans for the head?

haha, yea you did just have a similar topic as 98 type sh pointed out, so you want to swap to the h23 crank now its just a mild build? well, being that you mentioned earlier you only had 1000 to spend leaves you pretty limited once again, but just focusing on the bottom end, you have to decide how far you want to take you're project, I have not followed the results with mahle pistons, but if you are planning a serious build in the future you might want to just sleeve and be done with it. If not then the H23 crank is not a bad idea but are the rods compatible with the full floating wrist pin of the Type-S pistons? I could be wrong but I don't believe they are. Also as everyone mentioned before, have balancing done at a reputable shop is never bad, honda crankshafts are balanced from the factory though, so if you're using the complete factory rotating assembly it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

I never expected it to be a massive build for aroud $1000. That was never my intention!
The rods, i need more info on those! If I need to buy rods, I guess it wouldn't be a big deal!
So any other opinion on the balancing? $150 to have it done! Worth the cost? I am thinking yes, but if it is not necessary please let me know!
Thanks again

Whoever you buy your Type S pistons from should also have the piston rings.

lol. if the pistons come with no rings, BUY A NEW SET. ****.
This is obviously someone who has a thousand dollars burning a hole in his pocket, and has no idea what to do to his car. We dont want to spoon feed you the asstons of info that already exists on this site. Quit with the 6 threads asking the same **** "help me build my motor! i got 1K can i build and sleeve a bottom end?! HELP!" You have created atleast 3 threads with the samw questions with the same responses from other members. and whats with the damn exclamation point at the end of every sentence ? !
I have said it before and ill say it again. READ, and when you are done READ SOME MORE. The bright red Search button in the upper right hand corner of the screen is your friend. Use it, love it.
Again, what the hell is the goal of this build ? a track car? a daily driver ? weekend warrior ? There are a crapload of people running type S pistons and rods, search it.
My next guess is you are going to ask what cams or what header or what intake is best right ?

I only started one extra thread in this prelude forum. That is cause my original thread changed focus. I also posted one in the All Motor area to get more detailed info once I had a better idea what my intentions (plans were).
I plan to buy a new set of rings but does brand matter at all? I want to be sure I get the best rings for my block-sleeves.
My goal is a "daily driveable weekend warrior"
I only started new thread when topic was changing, or when I need specific info on a certain thing ie.-H23 crank!
Thanks again everyone for your help!
As for I got the CD5 Jeebies! back off! You have done nothing but be a smartas_ with all your comments. You are the post ***** IMO. If you can't answer the questions or give any relative info why post at all! Why did you double post this? No wounder you post count is so high for your short time here! You jump into peoples threads and say lame inappropriate unrelated bullshit!

This is the latest info I was given on a build I could do. Anyone else have any opinions on it?

look its real easy, h23 crank, h23 rods, jdm h22 oversized pistons/rings, cometic 87.5mm .040 thick gasket. and for god sakes please use honda factory bearings and seals.
i have done this setup over and over again. it makes some awesome power without breaking the bank. and is very reliable.
madcitylude, goodluck w/ your build

Tell me your thoughts, and estimated compression numbers and redline if I was to do this!
Thanks again

I think you are being give the answers instead of being taught how to get your own answers.
I think that the compression can be derived from existing information in this forum with pen and paper.
I think that the redline will be based on whatever components you put together and how you tune it.
You sir, should stop asking questions about and other's opinions and experience and think for yourself. What are your goals?
"My goal is a 'daily driveable weekend warrior'"
That statement is really vague and means nothing to me. So you want to haul a 30' boat on the weekends with this thing then?
Some people's criticisms in your plethora of threads are valid. Sit down and think about all the informaiton that's been given to you, then think about how that will get you to what you want, then if you have remaining questions search the archives for specific instances pertaining to your questions.

I would love to be able to get my own answers, but you are right I really don't know how to.
My "daily driveable weekend warrior" statement was an answer to LudeSH's question.
My goal is to obtain the highest performance daily driveable car that I can within my budget. For right now I am only building the bottom end, and want to bump my compression, and improve reliability. I can not sleeve (it is too costly) so I know my options are limited. I read the FAQ about my sleeves and Mahle pistons, and I will probably not go that route. I will just keep with Honda OEM piston. I just am unsure if I should go with Type S or JDM? I can't afford to have massive machining done, so I was looking to just find out what my options were, and what would be the best option for me. I plan to have the crank polished and balanced, pistons and rods balanced, and have the block honed and polished where needed.
I currently have an H23 crank and of course the H22 crank, I was informed that the H23 would be a good choise cause it has a 5mm longer stroke for more displacement. That sounds like a good option, so then I would need to get H23 rods (no problem). As far as pistons go I was thinking of typeS but I guess they won't work with the H23 rods (dif style adaption) so I guess I just get JDM. Now my question is are my current pistons going to have the same result (using the H23 rods)? If so why replace them?
Believe me I have tried to search. Either my searches are too vague or too specific. And the threads I do find are not pertaining to my specific questions.
This is my first build so I do have alot of questions, only cause I wanna do it right the first time. I am a fairly intellegent person, and if I can find the right people to explain things to me I will understand.
I know that there is certainly more than one option for me to choose from, I am trying to find the best option for me.
I appologize for the repeated thread, but I thought the original had changed focus and I wanted to keep it focused on specifics.

Man, you just need to have some patience. Don't spend anything until you are 100% sure that the way you want to do it is the best way possible. IMO stick your $$$$ in the bank, keep up the maintenance on your car, and continue to research as long as you can...

I already have the motor torn apart! I needed to replace my timing belt, tensioner, water pump, and bearings already! These parts are already purchased. I figured since I had it apart I might as well do some mild upgrades while I am at it. I would rather not just put it back together the way it is and then tear it all back down again in a month! And in a few months I plan to do my headgasket and rebuild my head. You are right I should have researched this sooner. I really didn't plan to do this all right now it just happend that way!
Thanks
