Default TDC? ......to tell

Besides taking off the dizzy cap, and turning the engine over to the #1 Cylinder (Forced out pressure), how do I tell it's right on TDC? I found three lines which were engraven in the cam gear itself, now, does the bottom line have to be facing that notch in the plastic? Or the two arrows on the plastic on each side of the gear (it as well has a line drawn 180 across the center of the gear). I have a D16Z6

Thanks for any and all help

1.Take ur dizzy off first.

2.Next, take out your number one spark plug and wire...put a straw down in the hole and make sure its sitting on top of the piston and turn the motor over with a 17mm socket on the very bottom pulley and do it until the straw is all the way up.

3. Then set your dizzy so its ready to fire on the first spark plug wire and put it back in.

...i might have missed some stuff here and there...someone fill in if i did

A.) the distributor only fits on the camshaft one way. The end of it is keyed, so unless you force/break it, it'll be firing at the correct time. You don't need to/can't adjust which contact it hits first relative to the camshaft's rotation.

B.) why does the OP need to do this?

Anyway......I already said I'm not taking off my dizzy. What I did instead is slide a long flathead screwdriver down the sparkplug shaft, touching the piston then I cranked the gear until it came up to the very top, then I realized that the dashes on the gear itself point to the arrows on the pully cover....all three of them line up

Much easier......anyways, I hope this helps someone
