Engine Trouble?
Well people, i have a very broad and general question. So in March i bought my 92 Integra RS, in great condition, 125k miles on it, and owned by older people so the engine's still strong. It's had all the right tune-ups and it's been kept up fairly well over the years.
So here's the thing, im a young 17 year old male with friends that also drive Acura's/Honda's and to be honest, we like to drive fast. However, i almost feel guilty every time i "gun" my car, bring it up to the redline, and slam gears while doing it. I've only done it a handful of times, maybe a couple of times a month since i bought it. This motor needs to last me 5 years, one year of high school and then college, and i'm wondering whether i need to stop driving like this? I know i dont do it often, but every time i do, i feel guilty that i just took my engine so far and im afraid it's going to deteriorate the life of it. Any suggestions and opinions are welcome.

Shouldn't really be an issue. We do drive hondas.. and they are quite reliable cars/motors. Don't feel too guilty for giving it a couple trips to redline. I do it every so often.. and i have no remorse. Just make sure you dont over-rev it or misshift it. Just keep the maintenance in check and you should be good to go.
I bought a mostly stock 1999 LS 5sp in the summer of '04. It had 54k miles on it. Since then, I've had countless redline shifts, ground the gears, missed shifts and hit the rev limiter, floored it to redline, etc. Probably 10k times to redline.
I used to feel guilty, like I was screwing it up somehow. Now I really just don't care. It's got turbo now, and sometimes I don't change the oil often enough and still drive it like it's stolen. But it still keeps running just like the day I bought it.
Not that you'll have the same experience, but that's how mine's been.

routine matinence is key for your cars survival
I beat the **** out of my car like im trying to kill it but not all the time, and she runs like a champ
I change my oil every 2500 miles, new cap and plugs every year, flush the radiator every year, and check for cracks in the timng belt and onther drive belts every 6 months
treat her good with these few steps and she will with stand a good amount of beatings and still get you everywhere

Oh yeah, I left one thing out. After I had the car for 6mo, (76k miles), my friend was driving it and downshifted to 3rd at 85+ mph. It jerked hard and hit the rev limiter. The timing belt broke a week later. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, but seems like it could have. Maybe try not to do those.
Yeah like DC Mang said change the oil regularly. Probably every 2.5k miles is good. I usually get to changing it about every 4k miles which is probably not enough for the kind of driving I do.
