B18C1 GSR, no VTEC, no CEL... new one to me i guess...
now all my VTEC cars have had one of my 2 B17A's on it and well a friend of mine has a B18C1 GSR and it doesn't have a CEL and has proper oil... VTEC selenoid? and how would i know to how test this? i believe it's an OBD2 because it has the big light front on it so it has to be 98 or newer... tried searching but i don't really know what to search for really... thanks

there are 5 conditiond that ned to be met for vtec to engage. these include:
1.)engine must be warmed up (opperating temp)
2.)you must be in gear
3.)your trottle must be open enought to allow enough air for vtec to opperate properly
4.)the engine must be spinning at its givin engagment point so the ecu sends a signal to the motor that allows vtec to engage. in your case vtec will/should engage at 4400rpm.
5.) oil pressure must also be correct. if the vtec pressure switch doesnt have enough pressure it wont send the "go ahead" signal to the computer for the computer in turn to engage vtec.
my guesses on your problem are either:
-you're not driving properly (you're putting it in 5th gear at like 30mph and expecting vtec to hit at 4400rpm: throttle positioning)
-you vtec solenoid is dirty and/or broken
- bad oil pressure.

Thanks for the responses, it was multiple first gear pulls not a 5th gear pull from like 25mph haha... maybe ill pull his vtec selenoid off and clean the screen and check to see if its backed up...
