Default Will the Civic Type R ever come to North America?

Any insider news on the situation. Last I heard was the rumour from Motortrend stating that the new CTR and ITR are coming. Others here who know auto industry guys say it won't be coming.

I've been checking, http://www.vtec.net/news often for any updates on the matter.

Is the DC2 ITR the only and last Honda Type R model to be sold in North America.

From what I hear the new Civic SiR hatchback (Si in US) is selling for $25,500 CDN. If they do launch the CTR, it'll probably sell for $28 - 29000 CDN for a Civic.

That's a bit too much, personally I think it overlaps with pricing Acura RSX line.

after seeing the si the other day, and finding out the hatch is now only offered as a *performance* vehicle ( no dx, cx, hx), i think there would be a conflict of interest...unless they discontinue the si. having both at the dealership wouldn't make sense imo the rsx-r has a better chance i think...

i disagree. with the RSX-S, and now the CL-S with the 6 speed, the market segment that would buy a new Type R is very small. when the DC2R came out, it was very different from anything else acura (or honda) made. now, the product line kinda blends together...

just saying i wouldnt be suprised if acura failed to bring the new R over due to wanting to keep type S sales up

i dont think you will see the new Type R either... All around the world its still an Integra... So they can still use the Integra Type R badge they switched to...

Now here in NA its the RSX... So they would have to design and manufacture a bunch of RSX Type R badges... I dont think the bean counters will have it... Rememeber that with the Red A logo... They already had a mold from the grey badges on the NSX... So they just filled them red...

This may seem like a small detail, but remember how few cars come here... Do you think the bean counter will let alot of money go for the cost of designing an RSX Type R badge? Also the new DC5R rear H badge is bigger than before... So they have to design a bigger A as well...

B-Diddy: You have no idea how right you are.
I am not saying we will/will not get any car
But, I am saying that designing for Honda is sooo
cost driven...most would never think of even the badge
cost like B-Diddy did, but it honestly it all matters to Honda.
Every last penny, even half penny. Multiply half a penny
by 400,000 cars (obviously less # for R's), but it adds up.

all so add on these costs as well...

new tranny gears since US is more high speed driveing vs stop and go of Japan

passing DOT

Passing emisions

the badge theory

transporting them here

little redesigns that they have to make

new seats and such(remember our Type R seats are just re wrapped versions of their GSR seats)

all this stuff adds up to a large bill for about 1500 probably less cars... If i was a bean counter at Honda... I dont think I would do it unless I could gaurentte a profit... And the price will be inflated vs the DC2R

Both models will come here. (CTR possibly labeled as SI-R and the RSX-R) Although they will have less content, like no Recaros etc..

so why buy an RSX-R then? cause no way the motor can be that much better. i'm sure the suspension will be nice, but will we get the nice brembos? I just dont see much of a market for either of the Rs. maybe you have a source, i dont know. just stating an opinion

I asked the ? before and all I got from honda is that the US SI is the CTR for us and that there are no plans for it in the future. The only R you will see is the ITR in this cuntry

Very interesting "bean counter, badge maker" point!! Never thought of it that way.

Haha.. just kidding.

That seems kind of silly.. Why is it so difficult to use the current A badge of the RSX and fill it in red? Like they did with the NSX
