I am using a P72 gsr obd1 ECU and I was told be people my ecu is in limp mode; if I am driving the car regularly it is fine; it was until I started to race it the first couple of times went ok and then 3 time when I get to 3rd gear it just choked at 5000- 6000 rpm kinda like redline and won't be go any farther/ like something was holding it back but I shifted to 4th gear and it kept going...for the next 3 times I went down the track it all happened I asked other poeple at the track they said my ECU is in limp mode- no one knew how to reset it I have tried unhooking the battery and it doesn't work....

 

resetting the ecu alone will not fix your problem...the ecu threw the car into limp mode for a REASON...you need to locate the problem...ignition related maybe...vtec solenoid problems probably...anything could be a reason... i suggest you start pulling codes and not just try to "reset" the ecu...because the problem will just come back..

 

i had this problem when i was low on oil. i did an oil change, reset the ECU and it was all find and dandy

 

you got any check engine lights?

 

Check for and CEL, diagnose with a jumper clip, theres a sticky for it, and fix whatever problem it is.

 

hey man i know this is an old post but im having the exact issue with my prelude and im lost with what exactly it is and was wondering if you ever found out and fixed your problem (recently swapped with a h22a with a tuned p28) but plz let me know if you figured out the problem ive been stuck with this issue since the swap and the shop has no clue why its doing it!
